Hello,
I'm trying to update my DSP7k and need a little help. I have a XP laptop and a USB to RS232 cable (that appears in windows XP on com port 17).
I assume that you update each speaker separately and with speaker in standby mode? I can't seem to get a connection as all it says is please power off / on but that's about all I can get from the Meridian firmware tool?
Can anyone please tell me the correct steps also can anyone recommend a USB to RS232 cable as it maybe that but I doubt it as I used this to upload firmware to a Cisco switch this week.
Thanks

You'll need a null modem cable as well.
Have you looked in the wiki for tips?
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

A RS232 NULL modem cable swaps over the TX and RX pins of a standard RS232 connection (You can Google DTE and DCE devices for more information).
Do read the Wiki all is explained.

Have you read the Wiki pages on this topic yet?
Do you have any other Meridian kit, to test the lead on?

OK, you've got the null modem cable. I presume it said "null modem" on the packet. Not all male RS232 plugs are null modem.
Silly question, but have you matched the comms port assigned in XP to that in the Meridian upload program?

If you've got a circuit tester, see if pin 2 is connected to pin 2. If it is, it's not a null modem. Pin 2 to pin 3 is null modem .

Null modem aside (Wiki rules...) to check connection to the speakers, bring up the virtual MSR on Config and see if you can operate the speakers from that (select source), if you can, you're on- update the software and follow instructions.
Cables are less obvious than they appear. You need a null modem cable.

I've done this recently with my 561, and when it says to turn off then on again, it means using the switch on the rear of the speaker. Although, I had a different issue with my DSP's (Access denied) but my 561 happily updated using that procedure. Does everyone else do it this way? Or am I mistaken? Wiki Page for Mconfig makes no reference to turning off/on

Yes, I was advised
"Once the file has been uploaded leave it for 10 seconds, turn off the Meridian Unit at the rear mains switch, leave for 10 seconds and turn it back on again."
By someone who should know.
Cheers
