Why don't you download the config program (free) and "fetch" (with a USB cable) the file from the processor. Then you can save it under a different name and modify as much as you like knowing you can always go back to the original configuration?

You don't specify films or music, or both.

For 2-channel sources, you should use SPDIF and make sure your G68J has the latest "apodizing" firmware.

For films you should be looking at the HD621, because it allows the following:

- From Bluray, lossless sound, upsampled, into your G68J. (Down the SPDIF cable you are only getting vanilla (lossy) DD/DTS, albeit at a much higher bitrate than with DVD.)

- From DVD, upsampled vanilla DD/DTS already decoded by the Oppo (which you will have to configure correctly so that it decodes).

Of course your ears have to decide in the end.

Thanks Ludwig,

I use the Oppo for movies and music although the majority of my music listening is concerts via DVD/Bluray. I can't remember the last time I listened to a CD despite a collection of more than 2000 CD's!

I also use a Sonos for music (until I can afford Sooloos) routed through my G68.

Many Thanks

Then I strongly suspect the HD621 is the way to go.

However, in the meantime, the 5.1 analogue connections into the G68J are still giving you access to the Dolby TrueHD and DTS MA soundtracks, as long as the decode settings in the Oppo are correct. That's the way I have it and it's none too shabby.

Digital processing is still applied to the analogue inputs by the G68, so the Oppo speaker distance/level settings can be left at zero. I don't watch enough Bluray to justify the purchase of an HD621.

I still need Help!

I have an Oppo 95 connected to my G68 via digital coax and analogue. Digital coax goes into the DVD input as previously used by my G98 and the analogue go into the CD input.

When playing CD I only get the Cinema/Discrete/THX (plus a couple of other) options. I do not get the Direct, Stereo, Music etc.

I have changed the Oppo output between LPCM/Bitstream but it made no difference.

Any suggestions please as I know some of you use Oppo players.

Thanks in advance.

Why are you connecting both digital and analogue?

Hi Brian,

It sounds to me that your G68 is not setup correctly.

Have you configured the G68 yet? Did you use the front pannel wizard or Meridian Configuration program?

I recommend M config, then you get a record (the .msl files) of your setup and you can send them to us so we can validate them for you.

Regards,
Carl

PS To get the best from Bluray you really need to add a HD621 to you system.

How have you got the Oppo configured?

1. For Analogue outputs
2. For SPDIF output

Carl

Hi

Thanks for all of your help so far and I know my lack of experience setting up Meridian is resulting in me asking lots of questions.

I started attempting to finally get it right about 90 minutes ago!!!

I am now going to connect as follows,

- Digital coax from Oppo to D8 on the G68 (currently connected to the digital multi in DVD).
- 6 analogue outs from the Oppo into the 5.1 analogue inputs on the G68.

(I am also considering connecting the stereo phono outputs from the Oppo into an analogue input (CD) on the G68 if for no other reason than to compare the quality).

I will then attempt to go into MSconfig and set up correctly!

From reading some of the replies it would appear I do not need to set speaker distances etc. as the G68 will still look after this, can someone confirm if this is correct please?

I am now crossing my fingers and getting prepared for a long night.

Cheers

I have lost my room correction information whilst setting this up, at the room correction stage it shows, "no measurements are present.

Is there any way of getting this back or am I better of buying a microphone and doing myself? I do have different speakers and sub since it was set up by Meridian (Des) but its always sounded really good.

I have not tested yet so I may be in a world of pain now!!!

Cheers and fingers crossed.
