Hi guys!

I've got a pair of DSP5000 96/24 speakers. I've just managed to download some HD music from www.HDtracks.com and I've uploaded them to my SqueezeBox Touch & it all seems to be working fine. The SqueezeBox says the tracks are in 96/24. My 568.2 also confirms the tracks to be 96k.

My problem is that when I play the music I've been told that a little YELLOW light should come on at the top of the speakers under neath the red power light to indicate HD music is playing. The yellow light doesnt come on for either of my DSP5000 speakers. I've checked the firmware on the speakers by pressing DISPLAY & it says they are both "5.10".

Is the 5.10 the latest firmware update for the DSP5000?
If not, where do I go to downloaded the update?
I'm assuming I use the RS232 cable to do this & would also need a program to talk to the DSP5000's (other than the LEGACY-PROGRAM)

I've tried putting the speakers into TYPE 1 (usually set to TYPE 6) & had the centre & 568.2 powered off. I then tried both 1 & 2 COAX inputs & neither of them will give me my yellow light.

Not quite sure where to go from here so thought I'd come & ask for some help please.

DSP5000 Firmware 5.10
DSP5000c Firmware 5.040

I bought the centre from a fello Hitchhiker who advertised it as 96/24 so I assume it's not a problem with that possibly being 18bit. Although there is no Serial No. on the back, it's just white with no text in the box. I can upload a photo of the rear if anyone wishes.

Any help would be most appreciated, thanks.
Marc

Hi,

Have you set HS=Y on the 568? Either through Mconfig or through the front panel.

Hi Nick,

I've just double checked through the front panel & I can confirm it was & still is set to HS=Y.

Thanks,
Marc

Have you tried plugging the Touch straight into the back of the master DSP5k? Does this make a difference?

Latest firmware is 5.21, available from your friendly local dealer.

If it's saying exactly that (small "k") then it is downsampling. It should be saying 96K. Which is it?

You may have set HS=Y but if you don't set the speakers to 24/96 in the configuration then the 568 will downsample and the speakers will run at 48.

Press Fn + Display on your Meridian Remote

This should cycle the Display on your D5k Master Speaker

You should look for a display that says something like

PCM 48k
PCM 96k
MHR 48k
MHR 96k

When you see such a display on your master speaker, take a note of what it is......and then post it here

This is a better indicator of the Datastream that your Speakers are actually receiving

Hi Marc

Quick question, are your 5000s the version 3 with curved 'smiley face' dot matrix display? If so, you should be seeing a yellow light as you expect.

If they are 96/24 with the rectangular LED segment display, then there is no yellow light to see. It's a green LED dot after the numbers in the display on that version IIRC.

Cheers

George

Hi guys!

Nic - Sorry my apologies, it says "96K"

I've plugged the Touch straight into the back of the DSP5000 MASTER & still no yellow light. I've pressed display when connected like this & the MASTER just shows "----" press again & it goes blank. I've also tried pressing FUNCTION + DISPLAY & nothing happens. I only see the PCM display on the 568 when its all connected up. Doest seem to show it when its the 5000 only.

Wow Mr Meridian himself!
That's a good point, thanks for that info. They are the 96/24 with the rectangular display. So maybe I'm looking for something that doesnt exist. However when looking close at the display you can clearly see a glass segment underneath the RED LED light where I was assuming the YELLOW light would be shown. My uncle has DSP5500 which is where I learned about the yellow light. He has the yellow light where I was assuming mine would be. So does this mean that little display under the RED light is non working/used?

Sorry guys, looks like I've over looked the simple issue of the display type.

Since the latest firmware is 5.21 & I believe you need to pay for that update. Is there a free update between the latest & my current firmware (5.10)

Thanks guys,
Marc

Hi again!
You shouldn't have to pay for the latest firmware but it is only available from your official Meridian dealer. I'm not sure who that is in Cambridgeshire. Mine is Meridian Oxford. I'm taking my kit into them on Monday for the upgrade...

I am probably wrong, but off the top of my head I think the yellow light on early DSP speakers indicates overload. It should say in the manual.

Hi again Peter!

I thought you had to pay for firmware updates. I've just been reading the thread The Meridian firmware upgrade hall of shame.

Well my local Hi-Fi store is SevenOaks in Cambridge, about 80 mins drive from me. I'll give them a ring over the next week & see if they will do the firmware update & hopefully won't charge me smile

Thanks Ian!
I've just checked the manual on Duncan's Info & yes your right the yellow light on the MKI's does mean OVERLOAD, so I DON'T want any yellow light on LOL. I feel a little silly now blush

Thanks guys for all your help!

Hi Marc,

If you take the kit too them, it should really be free or very little fee. There is also a firmware update for the 568.2mm which doesn't seem to have been well advertised. I was told about it by a Meridian person when I went to the open day at Meridian Oxford. The firmware update may also include an apodising filter upgrade too. I'll find out more when I take mine in on Monday.

All the best,
Peter

Continued in the 568.2mm new firmware? thread.
