Release notes for DSP5000's...
What does 'Power amps not muted in standby' mean and any implications for power consumption in standby. Is this like the DSP33 kludge of years back when an update to solve comms standby issue appeared to simply prevent DSP33's from going back in to standby. I read that and it's very unclear whether the power amps weren't muted in standby (and should have been) or the power amps were muted in standby (and now won't be). Rick?

I wonder what the "new firmware format" means with regard to the new version of the flash upload program ?
"Build 3478 (2011-11-03)
New Features
New firmware format, MFQ. Added IDs for DSP3300 and DSW."
Can any dealer clarify with M if it's possible to role back to the previous version FW if the customer doesn't like the result of the new FW ? The old flash upload program will continue to work with the old firmware. The question is whether or not the new firmware will lock kit to the new version of the firmware (as happened with the 598 a while back for instance).

I wonder what the "new firmware format" means with regard to the new version of the flash upload program. With a bit of luck we'll find out very soon. And, let's hope it's a DIY process.
Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

I wouldn't wish to update to then find out I'm stuck with it and can't role back to the current version if the result is more preferable to my ears. Avii

I notice under minor updates for the G61/G61R and G68 the note "No Trifield Width menu unless centre channel present".
Is this a clue to the previous loss of functionality?
It also intrigues me as I thought Trifield was applicable to 4-channel systems (FR/FL/RR/RL) and would have imagined that the rear channel levels would influence the apparent width. Has anyone any experience?

Is this a clue to the previous loss of functionality? Trifield hasn't worked in systems with a centre channel either, so the issue went deeper than that... Cheers George

Hi,
Perhaps I have missed something, but where is the download link to the new firmware installer - and is it possible to update to the new G68 firmware yourself?
(I bought my G68 used, and hence have no retalier)
Private messages welcome.

As yet we do not know if there is a new firmware installer publicly "available". The presumption is that you will need to talk to your dealer to get any firmware upgrades.
The new config files are available though.
Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.
Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

George, to be pedantic (sorry) Trifield WIDTH doesn't work in later releases.
I was thinking more of the "law of unexpected clues to software bugs", sort of inverse of the "law of unexpected consequences".
Does Trifield work meaningfully in 4-channel systems?
Anyway, I have contacted my Premium Partner about getting the software and eagerly await a response.

What does 'Power amps not muted in standby' mean and any implications for power consumption in standby. I wondered if this means that the amps will be powered down rather than just muted? Cheers George

But Evdberg, with respect, that is the inevitable consequence of parallel or divergent software development paths; at some point a change in one path will be incompatible with a change in the other. Software updates are bundled into releaases for good reason. You believe your version is superior but you can't complain that you don't have access to features delivered in the other path unless you, not Meridian, are prepared to support both paths. What would Meridian base their next upgrade release on: this one, the previous one, both?
I don't think Meridian are being intentionally awkward, they are following good commercial software development practice. Having worked for a software company that lost control of its parallel development paths and went under I know the consequences and sympathise.
Please don't take this as any criticism of your intellectual results or your yearning for improved sound quality in the face of what seemed to be a slow upgrade cycle.

No Darling, I've had it months!
