I been surfing the Meridian site and followed the link to the 598 review by 'Audio Revolution' which states:
"Additionally, the benefit of a direct digital connection applies to standard CDs, which the 598 will automatically upsample to 24/96 kHz."

Is this right? I thought it would output 24/96 if it was native at that rate e.g DAD's and DVDA (to 568.2/861 only) and that the upsampeling was done in the 568.2.

I am I wrong I hope so but if I'm not then 'Audio Revolution' have it wrong but worse Meridian done even proof read the reviews they link to!

Plase let me know.

i do not know for sure, but i thought the 598 only would upsample, in D configuration, the rears and sides, and the fronts and center were left to the 568 or 861. in D configuration, the only thing it can talk to is a 568 or 861, and i'm fairly sure i remember that the two connected devices worked in tandem to get all the channels upsampled.

curious about this myself.....

doody.

I'm fairly sure upsampling is a feature of 800 only.It has extra DSP in order to provide that ability.598 decodes internally and then sends the signal via Smartlink to 568.2 or 861 V3 (or above?) where it can then be upsampled.

The 598 does not upsample. Anyone who tells you it does is lying.

Besides the previous mentioned points Meridian does not upsample 44.1/16 to 96/24 but to 88.2/24.
