For DVD and BR streaming, rip them to a NAS and use a HDI Dune for playback through the HD621. Works a treat!

For video, I use Handbrake to rip my DVDs and some TV shows (TV shows are hard work...) and import them into iTunes after editing the metadata using MetaX. I have ~250 films loaded. I use Apple TV2s to play the films back. It has convenient separation of genres to allow us to quickly find the right movie to play. And at least in the U.S. there is plenty of streaming content to rent online.

The advantage of ripping to DVD or BR ISO and using the Dune is there is no loss of video or audio quality. It does use a lot of HDD space but they are cheap and it's pretty painless and quick ripping.

So will the HDI Dune be big improvement over TViX? I already have my DVDs on a NAS as ISOs.

The Dune plays virtually anything. Multi channel FLAC for DVD-A rips for instance. Only things I can think of it won't handle are SACDs and DVD-A discs.

Use yaDIS for a great front end.

Hi Jack,

Yes it's easy. I use anyDVD HD to rip to an ISO.

Get rid of the TViX, you will be glad you replaced it with a HDI Dune. Apart from better in about every area MyMovies have a 7$ iPad app with Dune support. Your movies can be insta-played directly when a cover on the MyMovies coverwall is tapped on the iPad. After the movie starts the iPad screen is turned into an IP controlled Dune remote with large background-lit buttons. Pretty nifty smile

I love my Nevo S70 remote, so am not looking for a general remote to control a player. I'd only use the iPad for a MC200 so that I get the greater control with cover art and catalogue features. If it's providing the cover art selection or cataloging I may use for initial play (haven't followed above links yet). I'm definitely going to look further into the HDI Dune. I can see it's modular and there are a few options, so need to understand which I need first (ideally looking for ISO playback and some digital TV recording). Hopefully has fast boot speed as well - the main annoyance with TViX as it's slow to boot. I'll look for some detail (and perhaps order) over the weekend.

HDI Dune boots like lightning from standby. I don't even think my old tvix 7k had a standby, it was so sloooooow.

If you want to be able to do all in one box. Get the HDI Dune MAX. The others "smart" models have different angles and expansions. I would pick something with a BD drive in. And if you want to watch IPTV further on I would get something with HDD. You can connect an USB DVB-T2 tuner to it but it has to be certain USB stick model/s.

Follow the links and you will have metadata and control through MyMovies and control from iPad with nice covers. There is a "server" part though that you need to have somewhere, PC was my choice but I know MyMovies runs on WHS servers as well.
