Actually it might not. To be safe you need a Keyspan adaptor. See the Wiki. Ken

I got my USB to serial adapter with FTDI chipset from here It works perfectly with my 568.2mm and my DSP5Ks. But they only deliver to Europe. Frank

I am a totally Mac person. 27 of them in our office. That's why this config and upgrade will be a slow process for me. I never owned a PC. I'll need to borough one with a serial port to do the firmware upgrade and config program. Good luck finding a laptop PC with a serial port. I also read on the Meridian site the version of Windows is important. Since you have a 568, you'll be using the " Legacy configuration program". I have been using that since Windows 2000, and I am now running it with no problems on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. That's a 10+ year span of operating systems. In my case, I have a HTPC next to my Meridian system (in fact, I'm composing this on a 65" plasma), and it used to stay permanently connected to the 568's serial port until about 6 months ago when I switched my universal remote to use serial control of all devices that support it, including the Meridian stuff. I know less than nothing about Macs, but I've heard that there are multiple ways of running Windows programs on them - either by adding dual-boot capability and booting a whole Windows system; running Windows in a virtual machine; or using an emulator program that allows Windows programs to run under the Mac OS. As far as serial ports go, there is a huge variety of models (and quality) of USB-to-serial adapters. I find the ones that use the FTDI chip to be the most compatible. The most recent ones I purchased were from here. Meridian is like the Zeiss instruments in our office. Great stuff but behind the times when it comes to keeping current on the software side. Since they haven't released any updates for the 500 series in a long time, it is understandable that they don't list modern operating systems and hardware as compatible. It would be nice to have a list with various things marked "we tried this and it didn't work" or "we tried this, it seemed to work, but we can't guarantee it will work". Absent that, places like this forum will be your best guide.

Well, 568.2mm just arrived.
Now to update the firmware and then run config. I got a friends PC laptop with a USB port. I could put a PC inside of the Mac laptop but a bit pricey as I will never use it again. This will be a Mac addicts nightmare. Now to first download the firmware and then hook up the PC to the 568.2mm then figure out how you PC folks get these computers to use recognize the correct port. I'm off to see if I can do this!
Well off to Radio Shack or Best Buy for a UBS to RS232 with that chipset thingy.

Is there anything to set on the 568.2mm before update? Turn it on and go or hit any buttons first? Do I need to be concerned about also wiring my 562v2 or 596 to the 568.2mm or leave them alone until after configuration is completed?
Thanks.

I turned off and on the 568 and hit start. Everything loaded. Yeah!
Tomorrow the config program. Again the same question. I expect I am to wire all DSP speakers first but what about my 562V2 and 596 before running the config program? Are they not revalent.
Nothing like progress.

Hi Bayetta
You don't need anything else connected to the processor to set things up successfully with the legacy config programme.
If you now have an SPL meter though, it's a good idea to have the DSPs connected and do the calibration whilst you have the laptop out anyway (although you can always do that later directly from the processor, but it's a good idea to have the calibration settings included in the laptop config file, not just on the processor).
Cheers, George

Well looks like I loaded the firmware onto the 568.2mm. I turn it on and it says Meridian 568. Hit display and it shows 2.5b9M/v262
What now?
Went to the Meridian software site downloaded Legacy and wired all the speakers as it said; however, as I moved down the menu I got stuck. "The product connected to your computer is unrecognised . Please insure G68D is connected.... this version of the config program cannot be used with 800 series version 3 or 500 series products. Calibration failed.
Sure seems like I'm not in the legacy program or am I missing something, esp. as one option on the top bar is "room correction" and I know the 568 does not support it.
Any ideas?

Hi,
You are running the later "Configuration Programe" (c 2011) and not the "Legacy Configuration Program" (c 1997-2004).
After you have downloaded the 2011 "Configuration Programe" you then have to select Help --> Check for updates. It will then connect to the Meridian server and display a list of options. From this you can select "Legacy Configuration Program" for download and installation.
