I'm going to have a maintenance guy over to repair the faucet in our bathroom. So for the first time in 9 months someone from outside my inner circle will see what I've got in the living room--not easy to hide.

So I've got an 800v1, an 861v2, two DSP5000s, one DSP5000C, two DSW1500s, and two DSW33s (not hooked up--which I should post a question regarding), all 96/24.

What should I insure this lot for?

An unexpected pleasure: 800v1.61, 861v2.5, DSP5000s; DSP5000C; 2x DSW1500 (all 96/24).

If in the UK, to replace on second hand market would likely be 7-9k. This may also cover upgrading 861v2 to 861v4.

Shouldn't you be Insuring 'New for Old'

So 800V4, 861V6, DSP5200, DSP5200HC, two SW1600, DSP3200?

USA Price List 2011

Make sure you're sat down when you add it all up though!

Cheers,

Rick

It's possible to insure new for old? I'll ask about that.

it is FAIR MARKET value. Which means you list with insurance agency at last current price and you CONFIRM this and GET IT IN WRITING. I created spreadsheets with PICS for each line item. This insures no "misunderstanding".

I use State Farm.

Hope this helps.

I've just gotten a policy for $100,000 coverage (which should cover the replacement cost of all components in the sound system). The yearly premium is surprisingly only $305. I explained everything to the insurance broker (through which I already have auto insurance) and it all looks good. She also suggested, as you did Mitchell, that I take pictures of everything more expensive than a couple hundred dollars. I'll be working up a list of my existing components, with printed photos, and their current replacement counterparts and costs. I might ask for a little help here with some of the details (for instance, what is the current counterpart to the DSW33?)--it's easy to adjust the policy later to cover a different estimate.

I've just insured my 11/12 year old Meridian system for an estimated replacement cost of around $85k. I can adjust this once I have the details for a minor adjustment in the premium.

I'd like a little help with being certain of the current counterparts to my older components. I've looked at the list here:

http://www.Meridian-audio.info/public/retail_pricesheet_%28usa%290111%5B3564%5D.pdf

But I'm not feeling certain of my own assessment. Will someone be willing to tell me, specifically, what the current counterparts are for the following components?

CD/DVD Player 800v1 is now:
Surround Controller 861v2 is now:

DSP5000 Active Loudspeaker is now:
DSP5000C Active Loudspeaker is now:
DSW1500 Sub Woofer is now:
DSW33 (surround speaker) is now:

If I had a total loss and had to replace all these components, would any new components be necessary in order for me to use the replacements? Meaning, can I still just plug my SqueezeBox Touch into a properly configured 861v6 and enjoy the music I'm enjoying now?

Thanks in advance. Much appreciated.

email them your itemized spreadsheet and corresponding pics (create zip folder with everything in it) and have them confirm receipt.

Use last retail price for items no longer manufactured AND include current model equivalent; have insurance company AGREE to this via email and you are good. Worst case you will split difference of old new vs. new replacement.

Hmm, I don't know what these components originally cost. Is there any way for me to find out?

CD/DVD Player 800v1 is now: 800v4
Surround Controller 861v2 is now: 861v6

DSP5000 Active Loudspeaker is now: DSP5200
DSP5000C Active Loudspeaker is now: DSP5200HC
DSW1500 Sub Woofer is now: SW1600
DSP33 (surround speaker) is now: DSP3200

All easily worked out from Duncan's website, to be honest.

It would all work with a SqueezeBox Touch.

Thanks. I know it's "easily" worked out from Duncan's web site, but I don't want to have any doubts about my assessment.

Is there any way for me to find out what my components cost when they were new?
