Hi Folks,

I need some clarification:

I have been setting my mains and center to small because I have an SW1600 sub.
The sub also has a crossover adjustment and a gain adjustment on the back of the speaker.
What does the Large vs small setting change?
What does the rear setting on the back of the sub change?
In addition, the G91 has a bass adjustment setting.

How do they all work together and in what order should they be adjusted?

1. Small vs large
2. Rear of sub
3. G91

Thanks,

Jeff

Large = all low freq to speakers

Small = bass directed to sub below X-over

Suggest 3100 and 5k2HC should be set to small.

Nick,

You say small directed to sub below X-over. It would seem that makes sense, but what is now confusing is the sub manual says if running digital, throw the switch next to the X-over screw to defeat. Doesn't that negate the X-over setting on the back of the sub? Seems it is only for analogue.

So in digital, how to set the X-over frequency? I don't think my G91 has such a setting.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The G91 only has basic bass management support and the crossover frequency is fixed (80 Hz I suspect) for more flexibility you would need a 'full featured' processor such as a G68.

Carl

So if I don't defeat on the rear of the sub, do I have the ability to adjust the crossover from there even though I am using the digital input? It would seem so.

Hi Jeff

My understanding is the same as yours, turn the defeat off and then you can adjust the crossover on the sub (whether the input is digital or analogue).

I also havn't seen a setting on the G91 about crossover so like Carl I belive it's fixed and you can't alter it digitally in the processor. Also on the G91 I've never noted any sound from the sub when playing music. My setup had the sub plugged into the centre/lfe channel. I think the G91 might only output out of this connection when in discrete mode (I.e. DVD's).

I'm going to try running my sub off the L/R signal (I might even try to get hold of a 2nd one to try stereo subs run off the main L/R) but my G91 is away at the moment being fixed.

BTW I run L/R/C & surrounds as large in the G91 setup at the moment.

Thanks Curly,

Most recommend running 5200s and less at small. This way the sub gets all the low end info from the crossover point on down. You will get the sub while playing music too.
