I'd agree with Asa on all issues........

Try to keep the Speakers and Listening Postion as far away from Rear and Side Wall Reflections

Toe In the Speakers towards the listening position........Tweak, tweak and then tweak some more........even a few mm can make a noticeable difference IMHO

Maybe because I'm on a Three Phase Industrial grade supply, with a dedicated spur going to the Room.........but I've tried many different Power "Regenerators" etc........they didn't make any difference in my applications

In my travels, I've heard a full Steinway Lyndorf setup.....as well as a Goldmund Setup......amongst many others over time

Extremely good.........quite a different presentation........probably better at some things.......but then not as good at some important things.........stronger with certain music types, whilst weaker with others

When you get to this level, I think it's better to say that you have different "characteristics"......rather than one being better or worse than the other

Despite going out of my way to get to listen to these types of Systems.........and being disappointed with some of Meridian's market support directions over the past 2 years.........I've still not been sufficiently tempted to change

One important thing to note........Cabling!!!!........I believe getting a decent well-made Digital cable for long Speaker runs is important.........these do NOT have to be expensive

However, for long Analog Speaker runs, then the Cable Quality (and usually cost) can be a major differentiator in terms of what it can add or subtract to the "sound"

In some of the systems I've auditioned, the Cabling alone cost more than my DSP's..........definitely not for the faint-hearted..........and still one of the biggest advantages that Meridian has IMHO

In relation to the Steinway / Lyngdorf system, I knew I had read the marketing bumph below, but it took me a while to find it again

I wonder if we should offer the same "encouragement" to Meridian....... smile

I can only wonder what Marketing person came up with the "rationale" of "make them believe it should be costing them more"

Add to this the fact that Steinway Lyngdorf applied the same finishing standards to the Model C and extends a bespoke service for it and one might question the pricing of the product. The Model C is priced at US$148,000 while the Model D is US$188,000. It turns out that the price is really a simple function of size.

"The price difference simply reflects the fact that we used fewer raw materials (components) for the Model C," said Madhavan.

At this level of engineering and craftsmanship, Steinway Lyngdorf actually wondered if they had priced the Model D and by extension the Model C too low. Madhavan confirms that the company was told that the Model D should have been priced above US$250,000 but that this was not in keeping with Peter Lyngdorf's purist sentiments. The same applies for the Model C of course.

"Model C is driven by Peter Lyngdorf's desire to give more music lovers the opportunity to experience (aural perfection). He is driven by pure passion. Given the cost of development and such, we could have and we are told by our clients that we should have priced it higher. After all, it costs easily above US$300,000 to generate a respectable sound system."

The launch of the Model C serves as an excellent lead into the new Model LS and Model M ranges. According to Peter Lyngdorf, Steinway Lyngdorf has managed to create a home theatre system that improves by between 20-200 percent on any product currently available on the market. But this is an entirely different story ...

Hi all,

I am not as frequent a visitor as I used to be to this site, unfortunately.
And I am extremely pissed off with Meridian's technical support - I won't repeat my problems here, posted them some months ago. They are still unresolved, believe it or not. More than one year to fix a 800 player, is unbelievably bad show.

Having said all this, i have to say that the best sound I have ever heard comes from my setup (four D8ks, 5000HC - this is the weakest link - 861/800/808) playing DVD-Audio records. No other setup, and I have heard quite a few, has come close to it for realism and 'involvement' factor.

However, the next step is a custom listening room.

Good grief that's still not been dealt with? You should keep onto the dealer to resolve and to Meridian if no dealer helps.

I am flabbergasted that your problems, Philip, have not been resolved. I remember well, and it was striking example of the problems the M dealer network currently seems to have...

Back on topic.... wink

No more comparison's to other set-ups / systems ? Interesting that there are so few comments in this regard.

Where have people "come from" before they had DSP8000s? Are there literally no other speakers out there - either active / DSP or passive + amplification that people would consider?

I guess I'm also trying to understand - as well as provoke some interesting debate / comment - if there are technically any better speakers out there, or is the DSP8000.2 really the ultimate for most domestic situations?
