After 10 years of 568.1 ownership, I am reluctant to admit that I've never created or used custom Types in mconfig.

Recently, I've made the decision to do some A/B comparison in my system at home, comparing my DSP5k/c setup against an analog setup using my Meridian 558 and B&W Matrix 804/HTM speakers, as well as some DIY Audax Joe D'Appolito speakers.

Since going all digital a couple years back, I've never gone backwards to really determine if going digital was "better" or not than what I'd previously been using.

I think I can use Types to make this comparison pretty easy and straightforward. My thought is to have 2 types, one for the digital setup and one for the analog setup, each with their own calibration settings and all. Then, I would be able to switch back and forth between digital and analog by simply changing Types via the front-panel of the 568.

Am I thinking correctly about how Types work in the processors?

Thanks much,

Dan

Dan,

I use also the "types" to make a quick compare between different setups.
That works good, but have the disadvantages that all the remaining parameter get a "reset" means have the default values.
So you can compare for example direct with another direct or music with another music,
but have allways on your mind that you have the preset values(no RMC data,no calibration/gain,bass,,,,are all at default)

I do compare the +3dB trick with different gain in direct mode for example.
If you want compare different setups-but not types-you can do it without loosen your other values.
