Hello, Its been a while since I have owned some Meridian equipment and I was tempted back by some DSP5500 MK2 speakers that are currently plugged into my iMac via a Trends UD10 and I'm having a lot of fun listening to them. I forgot how good the Meridian unplugged forums are and how helpful people can be. I just wanted to say a big thank you to Steve Eyles & Carl for answering several questions and helping me make the right choices. My current project is to build my own music server with out using a computer / mac by getting a Netgear MS2000 NAS to run Debian OS with MPD and a front end GUI to be controlled by an iPad / iTouch. Why would you do that I hear you ask ... well for a cost of about 160 for a 1 TB mirrored raid with out the iPad fits my pocket. I will hopefully get this working in several weeks and will let you know if I have been successful. I may get a musical fidelity Vlink USB to Coax to play around with as well but the trend UD10 is fine atm. But for now I'm going to listen to music for the rest of the day

Glad you've got it all working!
The NAS system sounds very interesting, I've not heard of Debian OS etc. I'm using an Apple front end.
Keep us informed on how it's going.
Steve.

How ironic. Although I had 200 series kit long before, it was you that I bought me into the 'modern' Meridian world with your 565 and 562v.
Just as you return after a long absence, I am about to depart as my 5200's are leaving tomorrow for pastures new.
I think you had an MGB GT didn't you? Mine got scrapped a couple of years back.
Brands were once a permanent feature and took up an unjustifiable amount of money soon fade into oblivion, or reincarnate as just a shadow of their former self. I hope you enjoy your 5500's, they come from the good times so will hopefully serve you well for many years to come.

Hey Ian nice to see you turned into a Meridian veteran and shame your leaving the fold. Sorry to say the MGB roadster was sold a long time ago when i took time off to travel around the globe. We all move on from things but now and then we get dragged back in or jump in. I have always enjoyed my adventures in hi-fi but there is a time and a place to spend the money. You never know when you might return ... just when you see those 8000 speakers at a price you know you cant turn down .. who knows As for Shaun & Steve's comments Computer based audio / video systems are a game changer and in the future someone might 100% crack it at an affordable price ... but for now the project i want to build will work as i have already done it on a small scale with 50mb of music on a Nas but i just need to get it right for 500mb to 1tb of data. As for the results via DSP speakers listening to FLAC I'm very impressed as I had a 12 hour session yesterday but I'm a audio enthusiast not an audiophile. I will update in a few months when i hopefully get it right.
