Looks like the end-user option to download f/w has now gone. The common installer now only reports the config programs + manuals as being available and if you look at the web-site it now contains this:

Updating your Meridian product

Your product can be enhanced by updating its internal software to the latest version. This will normally be carried out by your retailer.

Please do not attempt to change the software in your product unless directed to do so by Meridian personnel or your retailer. Do not attempt to update operating software yourself.

There is still a page that tells you what f/w versions exist (but it looks old) so that you can bug your dealer

So those without a dealer within easy driving distance have to risk shipping their gear around the country/world? I'd rather sell-up and buy something else that didn't put my gear at risk of physical damage.

Well, given Meridian's reaction to 'rogue' versions of the firmware - this development is hardly surprising. My gut tells me that moving into an increasingly retailer-centric model is the wrong way to go - particularly given the tenuous health of that dealer network, but it's their business to do as they see fit, just as it is our right as consumers to buy or not to buy.

The frustrating thing in all this (for me at least) is that at the same time their business model seems intent on marginalizing the audiophile, their kit continues to perform at a very high level. Bastiges (obscure Johnny Dangerously citation)! grin

I suggest mass sit-ins at all their public appearances until they reverse this decision!

Oh well, I don't think this will stop the HHers getting their hands on the correct firmware.

Commercially this is a good move, since a visit to your local dealer gives the dealer a sales opportunity.

This seemed to be coming any way. The apo thing just accelerated it.

I for one wont be buying anything more from Meridian.

This is exactly why I left lexicon.

They just killed the used market.

I would really like to say how feel but it will get censored.

That goodness I found a new outlet with the fiddle otherwise think I would be more upset.
Checkout fiddlehangout if you are curiuous.
My wife just picked up the banjo too.
What is really fun is that it is age and sex independent.
A 90 year old lady might teach you something or you might be helping a 8 year old.

Hi all,

The option to download firmware was pulled on the 3rd of March, which is the day before Bob's first post.

Carl

Sneaky.

I'm sure some of us still have the original files we downloaded to update our equipment languishing on a hard disk somewhere, if others needed them...

I too am not surpised by this development although the website does state updates will 'normally' be carried out by your retailer.
I'll wait to see if this means 'exclusively'.
