Do you mean that recalibration is required ? Also have you measured the key attributes for each player to establish what's different ?

"I connected both of the Ayre's HDMI outputs to inputs on the Class CT-SSP (along with the outputs from the Oppo BDP-83SE and the Sony XA-5400ES SACD player), but immediately defaulted to the Ayre's HDMI A/V Output in order to compare it with the Oppo. Since this output path is identical to that in the BDP-83 but Ayre does support it with their linear power supplies, I wanted to know whether the latter offered an audible advantage over the original's switching power supplies. It didn't."

I purchased the stock 93 for the same reason. It is my conjecture that there also isn't an audible difference in the digital domain when going from the 93 to the 95. Is there any audio improvement in the BDP-93 over the BDP-83 when using HDMI with HD621 and 861 v6?

Well, that is an interesting question. So far, my listening with the BDP-93 has been limited to SACD, and my initial impressions are that the 93 is superor to the 83 (although it is less clear why that should be the case). I never really used the 83 for CD, that responsibility falls to my 800, so not sure I can offer much insight on that front. With regard to films, the 93 does play back the Toy Story 7.1 soundtrack without heavy peak distortion, so I suppose that's an audio quality improvement smile

I'd say for DVD-A stereo

Oppo BDP-93 - HDMI - HD621 to G68SL balanced to G57
is not as good as
G91 analog out unbalanced to G57

G68SL, HD722, 2x DSP 640.2 in-wall, DSP5200SE HC, 2x DSP 3200SE, G57+outdoor speakers, Roon Nucleus, Sony BluRay, Sony 4K 75" LCD, turntable setup
