I cannot speak about the BDP-93 but, with the Ayre DX-5, there was a distinct difference between the normal (Oppo) HDMI output and the Ayre-designed HDMI output which has only blue-screen video with the latter being better. Both were fed to the HD621/861.
Kal I assume that's in relation to audio ? Yes, audio. I have no video display in the system. Have you been able to ascertain if "pure audio" mode i.e black-screen HDMI video output makes any difference on the Oppo audio over HDMI ? Only casually. It doesn't seem to. Have you measured the key on screen video attributes between the stock Oppo and Ayre ? I do not understand what you are asking. Kal

Yes, audio. I have no video display in the system. Thanks. The Oppo 93 has no option to disable "source video" from either HDMI output without resorting to pure music mode which disables source video output on both HDMI's. I'm also not sure if this makes any difference with the Oppo. To me it seems the twin HDMI output from the Oppo 93 is a convenience feature rather than an attempt to improve HDMI audio performance output by separating audio/source video which it doesn't. Other manufacturers may approach this differently. Only casually. It doesn't seem to. I guess Ayre do something different beyond static blue-screen video which you would kind of hope and expect given the price. I do not understand what you are asking I was just wondering if you had measured any difference in the HDMI video output characteristics of the Ayre compared to the stock Oppo that caused a measurable difference at the display. If you don't have display in the system then I guess not. Avi

In an end to end digital display chain I don't think the HD621 will make any difference to the video data. If it has a higher HDMI tolerance it may improve aspects over longer cable runs. But would adding extra connections (external and internal re the HD621) add video jitter?

Usually jitter is an issue in the the context of recreating an analogue waveform during a digital to analogue conversion. Avii

The modifications to the Oppo 93 by Audiocom should be finished at the end of this week or early next week. I should have the unit up and running by the middle of next week but it will be impossible to compare the unit with my previous BD or in fact against my Meridian DVD player as I'm changing all five of my speakers this Friday. I will, however, be sure to post my thoughts on the player and it's functionality. I'll also be able to comment on vido quality as both my display and video processor will remain the same.

I'd be interest in feedback re any measurable difference in HDMI video output characteristics. I'm assuming this is replacing a existing HDMI Blu-ray player and you will be checking calibration. Avii

Avii, I think he actually means "no" : I can't see any mention of ISF calibration anywhere (which is what you're asking about, right ?) - but excuse me for butting in if I'm wrong !
