Hi NiteSkye,
Welcome to the forum and welcome to the sound of Meridian DSPs. Your on a slipery slow now; as you move up the DSP range they just keep on sounding better and better.
Enjoy.
Regards, Carl

I can also confirm that the tweeter response can become soft over time. Tweeters don't always blow and stop working completely, but will dramatically decrease their output. Following the advice of some other HHs, I recently swapped out the tweeters on my DSP6000s and decided to go with SEAS Excel Millennium tweeters. I have been very happy with them and it cost about half of what the stock tweeters would run from Meridian. If you're interested, you can search some of the threads from last year and earlier.

I have to say, the treble is the only negative comment I have on the F80. It is just not all I wanted. I like the music, and the bass, but the treble comes up a little short. A small treble boost (tilt) can certainly make the F80 sound better. Give it a try.

Question - when I first turn on the system, I could swear that there is even less high-frequency content. If I listen to the same song after "warming up" the speakers with a few tracks, I feel there is significantly more volume & detail. Is that possible? Do I need to get my ears checked? What could be changing? It's probably you that's warming up. After a short while your brain becomes accustomed to the frequency response of the system and room. You will also become more relaxed, stress levels can make a difference. If the room is very cold though, this will effect the mechanical properties of the drive units. An experiment to try is to set the system playing before you start to listen, pre-warming it up, this would show whether it's the system or you that changes. Steve.

I fully agree with Steve. I think your ears have a short 'warming up' period in which they get accustomed to the sound every time you start playing.
I also had to get used a bit to the treble of Meridian at first, even though I never used speakers with harsh tweeters. You really have to give it some time (weeks) before making a final judgement. In the beginning I pushed up the treble by 2 steps to compensate, later I set my 5200's flat and I'm very happy.

Use tilt Remember the mid band is most important A tizzy tweeter is pointles Good flat mid brings out presence, vital for appreciation of detail.

Yes, I agree about the midrange. This is why three way speakers are so much better than 2 way systems. In reality, tweeters only deal with quite a small part of the spectrum. The range between 300Hz and 3000Hz is key.

I now have tilt at +2 and bass at -2 and I think it's better.
Chris who sold me the units contacted me offline to say he was sorry I was having problems. This is great after sales service, so kudos to him. But let me repeat the bulk of the PM I sent him:
- - - - - - - - Don't worry - they're great, and I'm really enjoying them. I don't think there's anything wrong with them - Boys Don't Cry by The Cure sounded better this evening than ever, with lovely crisp, clean treble - but I think I just need to get used to the M sound.
Each system has its own sonic signature, with strengths and weaknesses. None is perfect. I'm happy with the trade off ... but I do occasionally miss being able to hear the brush on the cymbal so clearly you can imagine it in the room. Now I have bass guitars and -wow! - grand pianos in the room, which I didn't have before. You pays your money... - - - - - - - -

I would leave the bass at +0 and try the tilt at around +6 and see how that goes, you will probably like it and then back off slowly over time.
No Darling, I've had it months!

I found that when I first got my 5200's they sounded soft compared to my previous AVI Neutrons (which use the fantastic ScanSpeak 5000 series tweeter). I tilted the treble up a bit (+3 IIRC) and was happy with that.
About a month later I wondered what it would be like turning the tilt back down, and lo-and-behold I'd forgotten that I had reset them in the meantime - it was already at 0 and I hadn't noticed!
So you certainly grow into a new sound from your system...

Thanks for the feedback everyone... it interesting that both Duncan and I came from Monitor Audio's, and we are both going through a 'transition' period. It's a good thing that this forum exists. I don't know what I'd do without the support. Said a little tongue-in-cheek, but it does help. I'll report back what my ears are telling me in a few weeks.
