My builders are starting to wind down for Christmas - and have left me with rooms ready to release my gear from its boxes! My planned setups are in my signature. For Squeezebox Touch fed into a pair of 5200s, can I enhance the sound by using a processor - or is a direct feed just dandy?

I'd appreciate any tips, as the 5200s and their apodising/upsampling are new to me.

With every good wish for Christmas,

Andy

If your only running 2 5200's there is nothing to gain with processor.

Once you have more Speakers setup then add your processor and it can enhance it using Trifield (or other 2 Channel DSP preset).

Thanks! I've done just that. And I'm amazed at what these little beauties deliver.

In fact this is not entirely true. Have you really tried both of the options?

I used to have the Squeezebox hooked up directly to my DSP's.
When I received my G61r and hooked it up I gained a significant quality boost to the music.

I was amazed because I was not aware that this could happen. Little sceptical, I asked my spouse and friend who were in another area of the room, not aware of what I was doing.

They confirmed and thought there was a positive change in the music.

So you should loan a processor and try for yourself. smile

I think there is probably more mileage in upsampling in the Squeezebox server.

A large part of that answer may depend on the room acoustic characteristics and issues associated with room modes. Room correction can make a significant difference but it depends on the how big the issue is in the first place.

Actually unless you apply the +3dB tweak your taking resolution away running through the processor.
You are also bypassing the apodizing in the 5200's (not that it's much).

So if you prefer a little lost resolution and don't like Meridian Apodizing.
Then by all means hook up your processor and enjoy.

Good point, I forgot about MRC. But I only saw a 568 on his component list.
But unless it's boomy I would not add a processor just for MRC.
By the way you can do room correction on SqueezeCenter too but it's very labor intensive.

Joel, where do you stand on that? I haven't seen any updates from you recently. Are you running a stable configuration now, and if so, what is it? I was waiting for you to reach a conclusion before putting it on mine.

Least you have a good excuse. I'm curious too about the final results.
