[quote=Ken]And the QSC is doing room EQ? Are there specific EQ filters the SSP could not perform using its native EQ, like MRC in the 861 (in other words, is the QSC necessary for performing the EQ)? Yes, it is doing the EQ. That's the whole point. This has been stated. It also does a better job than MRC. Go over to AVS forum and look in the $20K and above HT section and see how many people use a QSC. Ken

Reading the manuals for the ADA Mach IV and the QSC-322ua, and reviewing how you say you have your system set up, George is right. By routing all of the analog outputs of your ADA through the QSC, which does both analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion at 48kHz, you have crippled the sound quality of your surround sound processor. You're also having both the ADA and the QSC do bass management. You're not getting what you paid for from the ADA. And it has nothing to do with whether the ADA or Meridian is better. You'd be better served by a room correction system that does A/D and D/A at at least 96/24. I think the ADA TEQ units may fit the bill, but I'm just going on memory from my discussions with ADA at CEDIA.
Dennis, what's your take?

Dennis, what's your take? That ADA TEQ looks pretty serious (and expensive too) what's nice is that it may allow you to JUST do Sub Channels and still do full Room Correction coordinated between the two boxes and only require the 4 Channel TEQ (I don;t know that for sure you'd have to talk to ADA about that). Again I'll say "Don't Mix" Brands (when you don't have to). Splitting Bass Management between two boxes and two brands is just asking for trouble. http://www.ada.net/literature/product_data.phpStill not a great idea to even resample at 96Khz (I don't know what the TEQ even does for A to D) but at least 96Khz gets into respectable territory if you MUST do all channels. But I would avoid doing all channels if at all possible. And I would not assume TEQ does even 96Khz (it probably does 96Khz or better based on the price and ADA reputation). You could probably make your QSC work much better too, but I'm not going to get into that remotely on boxes I'm not familiar with. Avsforums can help you on that Thanks Frank and EvdBerg for helping sort this out for Ken.

Go over to AVS forum and look in the $20K and above HT section and see how many people use a QSC. Well, maybe they like their high-resolution Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA files converted to analog using the ADA's high quality 192kHz/24-bit DACs and then resampled at 48kHz by the QSC. It could be that they think the sonic degradation in doing so is offset by the benefits of QSC room correction. But there are better ways available.

We are talking Ferraris and Lamborghinis here. If ADA has a forum, stay there and don't look on avsforums. Again that's why I created the Meridian forum. To stay focused on Meridian and to learn and share how to optimize it as best we can. It's not a fanboy club and you'll see plenty of folks slamming Meridian for some things even from me (they are far from perfect). As the old saying goes "Better the Devil you know"

Finally something concrete! I don't know if this is correct or not but lets see Dennis take on it. You're probably on a first-name basis with Richard at ADA. Give him a ring and see what his thoughts are.

I was searching for better specs and stumbled on this. There are some folks that know what they doing over there but it's like finding a needle in haystack. Single to noise is usually better here. I like this guys thinking. http://72.9.159.100/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=18689920#post18689920But again depending on how they (Mark IV and TEQ) integrate it could solve a lot of issues. Your 861v6 "boat anchor" might cover a TEQ. By Roger Dressler in case link breaks. In an ideal digital signal chain, the processing feeds the DACs, which feed the volume controls and output stages.
Bolting on an external processor box not only adds another cycle of A-D and D-A, it sits after the volume control.
My guess is the TEQ apparently has its own volume control, so the one on the main preamp should be disengaged and forward its commands to the one in the TEQ

You could probably make your QSC work much better too, but I'm not going to get into that remotely on boxes I'm not familiar with. The QSC is set up very well. You asked me how the channels were routed and the crossover. There is A LOT more done to it but I did not do the set up and cannot intelligently reply. Ken

By the way, The QSC does do bass management but it is not employed since I am having it done by the Mach 4. Ken

How is that possible since the ADA is unaware of your 4 subs?
QSC has to be doing part of "Bass Management" and I'm sure it's unaware of what the ADA has done.
That's why a single vender solution is often safer. The two boxes can coordinate with each other. Not guaranteed though. There are specific bullets about the Mach IV on the TEQ (that's a good sign) but you need to talk to ADA.

By the way, why on earth are you passing main channels (non sub one) through QSC and not using QSC Bass management? You pay a HUGE price resampling at 48khz and you don't do ANYTHING with the main channels with the QSC?
Only reason would be to let QSC do Volume and set ADA to Fixed, are you doing that. Who controls volume?
