Hello all,

I've currently got a sickly G68 which is going to need some attention but right now, the lack of processor means I can't do much with how my system works. I currently have some old wall-mountable analogues wired into the speaker terminals in the back of the TV which is hardly ideal and means that several of my sources can't be connected (tv only has 3 HDMIs).

if my HD621 accepted IR input then I could use it to control a single pair of speakers and get everything else setup wiring and remote control wise and then have a working system waiting for processor to make it sing again. however afaik the HD621 has no IR sensor (am I wrong?) and my speakers are DSP33's so they've got no input of their own. I kinda need something that can accept IR input and output Meridian comms to control my speakers. so I was wondering how cheap old Meridian processors are these days?

I'm looking for something that can ideally control 3 DSP speakers, a couple of analogue ones (though 1 pair of DSP's and no analogues would really be fine if it comes down to it) and accept digital input from a HD621. I'm happy accepting a single co-ax input for stereo/legacy surround and I guess DTS isn't even a requirement. oh, and accepting standard Meridian remote commands so I can reset up the universal remote for my wife to use. (I guess this last one isn't a requirement, I can make do)

This way I can a) make sure my speakers work fine b) happily let the G68 go off and be sorted out and c) still have a working system that the G68 can easily slot back into afterwards.

all my current inputs come in via HDMI (through the HD621) so really, I only need 1 co-ax input and worst comes to the worst, 1 DSP speaker output and maybe some analogue outputs for future use, but hey, anything extra would be a bonus.

I really don't want to spend a lot of money on this as it's a stop-gap solution and it may be a while before it's re-deployed. I would guess I'm looking at a 565? 561? how much are they worth these days? I'm really hoping little... can I go earlier? how little can I get away with spending?

Many thanks for any help.

David

PS. of course, if anyone has something appropriate going unused they might care to lend me for an undefined period of time, I wouldn't turn down the offer either smile

565s even in Z3v6.2 form seem to go for as little as 300 in various places.

You could wire your HD621 direct to the DSP Speakers you have. Nothing will be calibrated (level or distance) but it's better than nothing.

err.. potentially.. you tell me smile

with a 512 remote sensor, would my DSP33's then become the controller, and be able to instruct my HD621 to change inputs? that's the biggie really, as all my inputs are currently HDMI. if that worked then I could get everything going and then slot the G68 in when it finally works smile

how much are 512 remote sensors then?

hmm.. tbh, I was hoping to spend less then that. proper, original spec 565's, what would they go for? don't care about 7.1 or dts or anything.

300 is still a fair bit of money, perhaps not compared to a pair of dsp8k's, but to me smile

DSP33's. no IR sensor or display.

what about a 562 or 562V they fetch little money <200 quite often, I think they should do what you want and also give you analogue and SPDIF /optical inputs.

Well, the 512 option seems like it might be the cheapest option, and by the sounds of it, should be able to control the switching on my HD621.

So, does anyone have a 512 remote sensor and D5 lead spare? how much do you want for it?

I believe one of your DSP speakers can be controller (remote sensor).

EDIT: UGH I didn't realize you run DSP-33's. One of the many reasons they drove me nuts. Good luck finding one of those D5 leads. Your processor will probably be back by then smile

Alas, I'm at the lower end if the Meridian scale here. I'd love something higher up, and with a display and IR control but I've got a baby coming next year, need to save my pennies as much as possible.
