DSP5200's offer a more Balanced, Musical and Pleasing sound to my ears than the DSP7000's

I like the DSP5200s better. The 7000s bass was stronger but not as tight.
DSP6000, DSP5200, DSP5500VC, P300W, SW1600, G68, 568.2, HD621, G57, G55, Oppo BDP-105.

Is there a third option 5200 used and spend the left over cash wisely?
Or a 4th option to go all the way to 8k used?

May I suggest you post your room shape and size, associated audio equipment and configuration (music/HT/etc.) and possibly content preferences (rock, jazz, shoot-'em-up films) as that would inform the suggestions.

Hi Ricky,
If you're "tight" on budget and light on equipment don't by new, there is some fantastic used M kit out there.
Looking at your signature box, it appears you're more in to movies than music. If this is the case, I would favour the 7000s as they have more punch.
However, of course for movies, you really want multi-channel; a 5.0 system as a minimum. So you might be better off, buying a used pair of 5200s (there is a great pair in the restaurant right now) and using the "spare" cash towards a multi-channel setup. Say a 5200HC and a G68 (or even a 568.2.mm) with a pair of analogue rears just for now and a view to replacing them with another pair of DSPs at a latter date, a pair of 5000s 96/24 may be.

Echoing what Carl has said and adding hard Numbers to it...........

And for that, you achieve a full 5.0 Meridian System with
........a Meridian Processor (with its inherent advantages)
........plus a very good pair of DSP5200's.
........plus a Centre Speaker and Two Rear Speakers
The Centre and Rears can be Upgraded later as your Budget and Tastes increase and the �750 cost is a modest one to achieve a full 5.0 system
Likewise, the DSP5200's can be moved to Rear Duties as you perhaps Upgrade your front speakers
Not trying to tell you what to do, but just showing the flexibility of the Options available

Not to divert the topic, but I've read anecdotally (probably here) that Bob S. was not satisfied with 7ks, hence the early intro of 7200s. So I wonder also about the difference between 7ks and 7200s, and how the newer 7200s would compare with the 5200s. Has anyone heard the two 7s side by side and formed an opinion re the 5200s?
