They look 'pretty' never understood why something that is supposed to make an audible difference has to look good as well, perhaps it's appeal lies in the look rather than the audio quality, I use shielded cat6 and have not found any reason to change? YMMV

I actually bought some snake oil the other day; Crimp Oil. I've just taken up indoor wall climbing and wanted something to provide some relief after bouldering sessions while I'm still building up strength.

The claims made by this manufacturer are completely without scientific foundation - homeopathy at its worst - but I was looking around for a massage oil and was curious.

It is, of course, the act of massage which I find effective for re-invigorating fingers, hands and arm muscles after a climbing session; and unsurprisingly, that's all this oil is: a nice smelling massage oil. I was quite surprised though that there wasn't even a warming effect from the oil of wintergreen (methyl salicylate) - heck, if you were selling this thing, wouldn't you want to give the user the impression that something was "working"?!

Ultimately though, as someone else commented in an on-line review, paracetamol and/or ibuprofen are rather good at reducing inflammation.

True homeopathy would dilute a pipette of your oil with the equivalent of the world's total water supply, then say it was "stronger" because the water remembered the active ingredient in the original oil, and the more dilute it was, the more effective the solution.

Not much anti-inflammatory effect from paracetamol I'm afraid, unlike the ibuprofen which is an non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Pedant mode off!

Yes please go pick it. Back to Basics. As a Meridian "Hurdey Gurdey" player I could do with some, but will it improve my ears?

I've always wondered how trading standards views homeopathy. Because if you purchase a homeopathic remedy there ought to be traces of the active ingredients present, otherwise it's just distilled water.

Regarding Fazioli pianos v Steinways I asked the opinion of the piano tuner at the Cheltenham Music Festival (they have 1 Faz,3 Steinway D's).
He said it was too soon to tell (its 18 months old)
However he did say the life of a concert Steinway D was just 10 yrs (all that transportation and pounding performance)

I just stumbled across while searching for another post. A friend of mine sells various brands of pianos, owns his own piano store, has been a piano tuner for years and his favorite is Bluthner. He indicated that Fazioli, Steinway, Boesendorfer, etc. are all very nice pianos, all have their own distinct sound, but his preference for classical would be Bluthner. He had mentioned the Boesendorfer just got bought out by Yamaha and he's not convinced it was for the better. Once you get into that high end concert grand piano for $120K+, it almost doesn't matter, it's what you like. I grew up around a piano teacher at a local college and she had two old Steinways at her home she would teach on and she mentioned that the older models before a certain time period (I forget the date), were the ones she thought were better. Again, it's all what the artist prefers.

Or, placebo effect at its best wink. Harmless for the worried well but more of a concern when relied upon by the truly ill
