I must admit I'm hugely tempted by the HDI Dune Smart when the new chipset is released.

Modular as well, so you only need buy what you need.

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Dune Smart has the same chipset as the Dune 3.0

But yes the Dune 3.0 or newer model are models to have. Firmware are stable and they practically run everything. And for Meridian owners important: it does 7.1 PCM out via HDMI (HD621) or analog (G68/IA45). Not many mediaplayer have this. Most only output bitstream, since this cost less in licence fees (as the player does not have to do the decoding)

Yep, have been running both HDI Dune Primes 1.0 Gigabit/3.0 Blu-Ray streamer since March 2009 with 8TB NFS RAID5 PC server into HD621. It has really worked well and I ask myself from time to time (although it's more seldom now) why haven't Meridian managed to catch on..

How many years will it take before they can release a Blu-Ray quality streamer.. 3-5?

Netflix just released their PS3- Watch Instantly software in the US. It streams movies in 1080p with 5.1 surround.

Apparently Oppo is coming out with a new universal spinner (BDP-93) with media player capabilities. Offical specification and release date unknown. Discussion of the intial release specs rumours and some comparison to certain Dune players in the link below:

I can't get my BDP-83 to play BD rips. It plays MKV OK.

Isn't the problem (as previously discussed) that to provide a rip and secure store solution for DVD has proved legally impossible up to now? And with control of the ripping process necessary to ensure SOTA reproduction at the end (viz Sooloos), M would be compromising itself if it opened the door to video without ripping under its control too?

But maybe you were involved in the last thread about this, and if so perhaps we should rechew our food...
