Doing the MLS setup. I keep getting a low SNR ratio (25-28) for all speakers. I have my RS meter set to 70, C weighting, Slow. Is this the correct setup?

Ahh, setting the meter to 80 is making things better.

The MRC user manual gives some suggestions for poor SNR. What you tried is a good solution.

Check out the wiki too.

One important thing new folks don't realize is the need to use a tripod or mic boom. Don't hold the mic. More info in the wiki. See link at top of this form.

Reviewed the wiki before I started.

Seems 80, fast, and 2v works better for me. The only issue I had was with the sub (low SNR but I can barely get it calibrated to 75 so makes sense).

I followed George's recommendations and ended up at 200ms (53 filters).

Overall a pretty smooth setup. Just need to remember to write down settings that I only use every 5 years or so smile

Gages make sure you turn off and on the 53! filters you have for MRC to ensure it is not sucking the life out of your system. I ran MRC from 250 down to 50ms and generated several filters since the Auto setting did not yield any filters. I ended up shutting off MRC (and going by M's auto setting) because it was ultimately counter-productive, even if i wasn't getting my $'s worth in terms of full features being incorporated into my listening.

Just because it's there doesn't mean you need to force it was the moral for me.

The whole point of the procedure is to NOT suck the life out and find a target that removes some trouble spots without harming the good stuff (by ear). Most of the time you can find a point that helps more than it hurts. If you sucked the life out you definitely went too far. You can set MRC to be as light handed as you want. I have mine defaulted to 210ms (33 filters across 5 speakers). It seems to be around where most folks end up. If it sounds good without it great. For many folks it helps. You need to be careful what music you test with too (you may pick a tune that is just way over the top and try to clean it up with MRC and end up over doing it). You want something with strong clean bass. I use BlueMan group DVDA for a lot of bass testing. Insane bass but very very clean.

This year have done a lot of testing with MRC and ran my system with all kinds of configs, ranging from 6 manual filters to 42 generated filters at 250ms decay. I definitely had configs that sucked the life out of most music, but of course not from the music I used to test it at first. All I can say it is very difficult to get it right, and there does not seem to be one config that sounds perfect for all. I settled on a config that has both generated filters at 320ms decay with some manual tweaked filters (especially around 44Hz room resonance). I am very happy with the end result, I get "the band is playing life in my room" feeling by most albums.

Remember one of the good things of this system is that you can store several (in fact MANY) setups into the processor and select them from the remote.

So do not be 'obsessed' in finding 'the' right one: setup several, store with recogniseable names, and try them!

After days or weeks you'll know the ones you do really use (probably more than one as there are discs and films with very different bass energy). You can store them as new modes too.

The system is so versatile... use it.

I am aware how the system works, and have used multiple profiles for testing purposes. But in everyday use I do not find it practical to switch modes all the time. My 'obsession' as you call it has let to a very good config which works very well for almost everything. It just took some time and persistance to come to this point, but it was surely worth it.
