Do we know if the 3200s have coax SPDIF inputs? I'm perhaps foolishly assuming that the connections panel would match the one on the 5200? If they don't then I think it would be a(nother) big mistake.

I'm pretty sure the DSP3200 ONLY have speakerlink inputs. The idea (i think) is that the AC200 is the display, IR receiver and inputs for the DSP3200. I would guess that the thought process went something like:
We need more inputs on this speaker to accomodate lots of sources... Wouldn't it be easier for cabling / we can't fit them all on the speaker... Lets make an input box for the speakers... Why not put the IR and display on this input box so... We only need speakerlink to the speakers.
The AC200 and DSP3200 are partners, as being photographed together suggests.
Just my thoughts. Rick

Rick,
What is the UK RRP for AC200 and DSP3200?

Rick,
Very many thanks.
In the world of an 'all' Meridian set-up, how do you see this system being used?
For example, with a Sooloos C15 as the primary source or what?
But then, why wouldn't you just plug the C15 straight into the DSP3200s via Speakerlink...
I take it the AC200 has no video capabilities?
Curious...
Zander

Well if you have an all DSP home theater then you wouldn't need the AC200, as you would have an HD621/G68 type of Controller. The AC200 is really there as a way to enter the world of Meridian. In older Home theater systems then an AC12 will be required to convert SPDIF and COMMS into speakerlink.
Yes I do see the DSP3200 being sold with a Control 15, a very neat system, as you say DSP3200 direct to C15 via speakerlink. And if more sources are needed then C15 into AC200 and then onto the DSP3200 all via speakerlink.
No the AC200 doesn't have any video switching to my knowledge.

Rick,
I do have a 7.2 theatre system, Sooloos C15 and a buckshee pair of old D5Ks.
I'm considering propagating Sooloos throughout and have been waiting for DSP3200s. So, this 'new' information doesn't change anything in that context.
Like others have said, it's odd that the AC200 doesn't have Sooloos end-zone capabilities (like the MS600). The MS600 is the route I'll most probably be taking.
As I understand it, the AC200 + DSP3200s is designed to be a standalone set-up with the AC200 being able to accept (multiple) Meridian & non-Meridian sources. Having said that, I can't see anyone feeding an AC200 with, say, a 'G' series CD source...
Also, in terms of form factor, there is a big disconnect in design terms between the Sooloos C15 and the AC200 - as a standalone set-up. The Sooloos and A200, never mind the DSP3200s don't exactly look as though they've ben spawned from the same family.
The AC200 just seems to be an odd kind of box for them to bring out now...
Zander

Hi Zander,
No the Ac200 doesn't change anything for you.
I'm not suprised by no Sooloos zone in it, (I think calling it a 'core' has confused that issue) as it doesn't have a radio or a CD drive either.
and a new form factor for a single product....that is a little odd. Rick

Rick - any idea on the bass response of the 3200s? Given the "tweeter" is full range, I'd imagine that Meridian has done a DSP33/F80 trick with the woofer to extend bass response to a "surprising" level for the size of the box.

I like the new DSP3200!!! Very neat looking speaker. Bravo Meridian for developing something new and exciting!!!! oh, don't get me wrong, I like the look, and I'm sure they sound great, but I would imagine that I would be a prime upgrade candidate for them, with my current DSP33 setup, but if it's speakerlink only, then they're putting barriers in the way of my buying a set. if it had the same connection panel as the 5200's, ie speakerlink, din comms and coax input, then I could buy them and use immediately. as it is, they want me to jump through hoops to be able to use it. this just seems foolish as I can't imagine the extra connections add but pennies to the price to make. I really don't understand some of their recent decisions...

Ah, that's because you are (presumably!) not the 30 year old Porsche driving (upgrading to Mclaren soon) marketing guy who is advising Meridian now.
Sorry to be so cynical but I am really wondering if persisting with Meridian gear is worth it any more. You see, I'm not really interested in Sooloos servers, M80 style portables etc. I just want updated conventional components with improved usabilty (e.g. web based setup and firmware updating).
Sigh...
