If you want to buy ex-dem with warranty from a known dealer, I think so. You won't find them any cheaper from a dealer at half retail price (or even less if your best offer is accepted). DSP5500s are now end-of-life, I guess, or will be soon.

Peter Tyson have 3 pairs currently on eBay. Look very tempting especially in silver.
Regards Danny.

Hi Danny,
I know I have said this before and do forgive me for repeating myself, but do be cautious with DSP5500s, the bass is prodigious possibly even extreme and may be difficult to control in your room.
So please, please, please do not commit to them without a home demo.
IMHO you would be better off with a pair of DSP5200s.
Regards, Carl

Sorry Danny But I think it has to be said that since joining us here last April, your posts seem to be all over the place in terms of looking for "advice"
Yet, it doesn't seem like your equipment signature has changed in any way??
What happened to to the D5000s you were going to at least Audition, if not buy, on your last Thread?
I agree with Carl that the DSP5200 is a much better speaker than the DSP5500 for almost all situations.
The fact that it available for less than these Demo D5k5s is just an added bonus.
But none of this "advice" matters a damn unless you actually go and listen to this stuff and make your own mind up.

I am not contemplating buying, just wanted to know how good a value an ex-demo 5500 is for 4999.
I'm learning about price/value in terms of Meridian kit. I'm afraid I need to ask these questions in order to learn.
My heart and brain says used 5000's or 5200's for the record.
Regards Danny.

A problem for us on here is that often your posts are very vague and we naturally make assumptions.
In your first post in this thread, you only wrote:
Title: "Is 4999 a steal for ex-demo mark11 DSP5500'?" Post: "regards Danny"
It is not a huge leap; that if one is asking about price of equipment, for one to assume that the OP is considering purchasing said equipment.
Hence the remarks from Ronnie.
To be honest Danny, your constant swapping and changing tack, with no indication that you actual get out and listen to any kit is staring to frustrate some members on the forum, me included.
Newbies to Meridian are always most welcome on here, but please try to be more acturate and detailed in your questions as 'time wasters' soon start to test the patience of our members.
Regards, Carl

Maybe an ex-dem pair of Ferarri red DSP7000 with one year warranty available here in Sweden for 8500 is a better buy (since you are buying no speakers anyway...)?

Ok. Let's not turn Danny into a target. I agree that the scattergun approach to asking questions isn't the most helpful, but Danny is not alone in trying to figure out the best bang for his before taking the plunge. I always like to be sure that there's nothing else "within a stretch" that would be a better option for me.

It is much ruder and counter-productive to answer questions in that snide accusatory tone as per above. If the Q annoys then simply ignore it. This is not a debate thread.
Better to ask here than inquire at dealer and get salesman's hopes up on potential sale that may not materialize, even if it is their job. But that's values.....
My advice: 5200s over both 5500s and 7Ks.
Good luck and ask away.

To be honest when i asked the above question i was sitting in traffic in my car and I used my iPhone to type, that's probably why it came across the way it did.
Anyway all the best everyone, and thanks for the advice over the past months.
Regards Danny.
