Is it possible to get any feedback on Volume etc from my G68 on screen? With my equipment in another room and my speakers too far away to see the DSP displays, it is really tough to tell when I increase volume? Does the HD621 have an On Screen Display?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

The only practical way is a screen overlay which degrades video.
Only other way to consider is using rs-232 with a pronto or other advanced remote control system.

If you use Squeezebox etc, you can write a script to take output of RS232 and display it on your squeezebox display. Many years ago, I had a small windows program that I modified to display a test feed from the serial output from my GPS on my Squeezebox, but never was in a position to have my PC close enough to my M kit to do same and optimise the output from my M kit. In the mean time, Slim broke the web API that I was using and it was only in the last few years that I received notification from them that it had been fixed, by which time, I had moved on. There seem to be very many more api's available for squeezebox now and I don't think it would take much for someone to utilise one of these write a script that would (simply read comms port, format, write SB display, pause as required) do this now if one has not been written already. Thankfully the serial output of the newer M products is quite display friendly. I would, but have long ditched squeezebox and some people seem to have far too much time on their hands...

There is a device produced by Shawn Fogg (sp?) called the Universal Translator that, among other things, would produce an on-screen status bar for things like volume, DSP, etc. Quite useful actually, and not expensive. It connects thru the RS-232 socket, but I cannot recall if you have to also have a Lumagen Radiance or not? Website is www.switch-box.comSimon

Simon,
You have to have a Lumagen processor but it doesn't have to be a Radiance. It also works with the VisionDVI/HDP/HDQ/ProHDP series of processors.

Thanks for the response, Meridian don't make it easy do they! I remember having the OSD with the old 565/568 combo via the 562V.
Back to programming RS232 on the pronto, I cant justify the Lumagen expense.

The Meridian's protocol is pretty simple. If you get a 20byte message it is the contents of the front panel display. I think on the 568 it is a 16 byte message.

RS-232 2-way on a pronto is not soo cheap either.
It works pretty well though, i have Volume, Preset and Source working fine.

Is it possible to select a discrete DSP mode i.e. trifield, direct etc via or IR for that matter ? Not directly via IR, but you can set up a phantom source which defaults to the DSP preset of your choice. You can select DSP preset discretely via RS232.

I use phantom source currently with IR but may invest in an RS232 module for the Pronto. Is it correct to assume it's possible to get the same info that's shown on the front panel of a g61r back via RS232 to display on a Pronto ? Avii
