George, thanks, information that I'll have to get my teeth into another day. Like I say though, real-world examples are a good way to really explain these complex processes, so if someone could upload a step-by-step example then it'd be very useful !

Question : when you have a selected profile & you want to re-measure because you want to check the effects of different reverb times, why does it say that it's going to delete the profile ? I forget the exact wording, but when you right-click & then select "build" the message is something along those lines. Can't the profile be kept / copied somehow, in case you want to use it instead ?
Also, there are lots of comments about the radio-shack SPL meter, is there a (better) recommended microphone to use ?

Hi Rolski
If your comment is based on a desire to hear the effect of different (reverb) decay times, you don't remeasure to achieve this. The system takes a set of measurements, and you can then either accept the decay time the system sets automatically, or you can tell it to build new decay times based on the figures of your choosing.
eg The measurements are complete, and the MRC nominates a set of filters based on a decay time of 400ms.
You may feel that this doesn't do much, so you can go back into the software and tell it to manually build filters based on, say, 350ms, 300ms, 250ms and 200ms. It will then build sets of filters based on these target decay times, all of which are calculated from that initial set of measurements.
Each of these new filter sets is available from the front panel, as you will have a list to choose from now, of Bypass, 350, 300, 250, 200.
Hope that clarifies things.
George

Aha - thanks - I'll try to play with that later & see what effect it has for me. I do of course understand that different people have different sized-rooms with further different behaviour patterns due to furnishings / treatments etc, but do people (after testing) come to the conclusion that a certain (common) range of decay times works well ? For example, do many people find that 200-400ms is their "critical range" or are results spread across the whole available spectrum ? Perhaps an interesting survey for someone who's interested in setting it up ?!

Hi Adamski, It [BW800 diamond] is however very amplifier transparent and therefore will soak up huge amounts of money in order to make it sing with the right amplifier. Nonsense. Get a BRYSTON AMP and call it a day if you must have the BW's. Of course a BRYSTON won't soak up HUGE amounts of money but will be as good as anything out there minus the bs case design upcharges. IMNSHO Unless you want to let yourself get sucked of huge amounts of money

Also, there are lots of comments about the radio-shack SPL meter, is there a (better) recommended microphone to use ? That's a valid question. And you CAN'T as far as I know. Measurements are always done with no Profile (no Filters) applied. It is not iterative. It would be nice to compare a MEASURED results with Filters applied against what the software PREDICTS will happen. But you cannot do that. You can work iteratively with third party software though like REW or with TrueRTA (both discussed in WIKI). In practice I think you find yourself getting in a loop. Push that peak down and another pops up. Push that new peak down and another pops up etc. By the time your done it will sound like crap.

Thanks George. As the 861v6 is now here to stay I'll take a closer look at the MRC measurements - and now that I've changed the type to 1 from 0 I'll have to re-measure & start again anyway. A lot of fiddling ahead methinks....

Rolski, Was your 861 set as Type 0 when you went into the Menu?
Or was it some other "name" perhaps set up by your installler using the MConfig program.

Ronnie, my 861 was set up as type 0 when I received it. And my installer hasn't been over yet to perform the installation.... Hopefully, now that we've come to a compromise and I've decided to keep the 861v6+HD621, he'll be here later this week ! In the meantime, perhaps later today, I'll set the type to 1 & re-configure the whole thing again....
