Upsamples, Apodises, connections the same as a Control:10, so SPDIF and Speakerlink.

[pedant]HD621 is MMHR, not SpeakerLink.[/pedant] And the G6x processors have speakerlink...

It doesn't,
The ensemble does not sound anywhere near as good as the Control 15 into DSP's and the iPad experience is 'nice' but not as complete as the Control 15.
Nor, of course does it rip.
If you have DSP's, the Control 15 now makes a good case for itself.

Don't quite follow.

Are you saying that Control 15 straight into DSPs sounds better than Ensemble because Control 15 doesn't upsample/apodize?

And do you mean iPad doesn't itself rip, or does Control 15 not have a CD drive?

Sorry to be dim.

And VK, it's OK, I expect that here smile I knew that but was just not as precise in my formulation as this forum deserves. I will try harder...

The specs I have been given are

Storage:
-500GB hard drive which will store approximately 1000 CD albums in FLAC and the MP3 versions for export to personal music players
- If additional Sooloos storage products are available on the network, Control 15 will share these resources and render audio from them
- CD drive is included to add music on to the system direct from CD
- Media can be added via Control:PC/Control MAC applications

Playback:
- Control 15 features a brand-new audio output design
- Audio is processed at 24-bit definition at sample rates of up to 96kHz
- Meridian 'apodising' filter technology audibly improves sound quality and is also able to clean up faults recordings caused by sub-optimal filtering
- Superb low-jitter clocking maximises audio quality

Connectivity:
- Speakerlink, SPDIF coaxial, Meridian Comms DIN connector, trigger, infra-red remote receptor input port

Other:
- Control via touchscreen, MSR+ remote control, Sooloos iPad/iPod Touch applications
- Access to internet radio and Rhapsody music services

regards

David

What about the new speakers? All the posts thus far are about the Control 15. Does anyone have any information or specs about the new speakers? Thanks.

Sorry Nic,

I meant to include the original comment and everything got out of 'sync'.
Basically, i am saying that the case for Control 15 over Ensemble with iPad is that the Control 15 sounds better than the ensemble because of the upsampling -apodising and it is a true Meridian audio product. The ensemble is an original Sooloos product, largely unchanged apart from software updates. Also if you use the ensemble-iPad combination you will have to rip your CD's via some other means. The Control 15 can do this for you.

sorry to confuse

Wayne,

The new speakers are not going to be available until later in the year. Technical details are a little sketchy at the moment:

Small DSP3200 - a little smaller than the DSP8k head unit.
The familiar industrial design shape.
Shelf -stand- wall mountable
Speakerlink ONLY
Uses full range HF unit (as in F80) and single bass unit
Additional subwoofer will be available
Centre speaker will become available later with 2 bass units and full range HF.

Can't tell you much more at this stage

Thanks Rick, I assume the Control 15 is the next generation Sooloos system that people are talking about being released at CEDIA?
