Hi, I notice that there are a few topics regarding this from last year, but none of them appear to mention how many U's are required for an 861.
I'm a little tight on rack space, so if anyone know's if the 861 needs 4U or 5U it would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, just to follow up on that one, It IS 5U if you use the Meridian kit. You could just use a standard rack shelf and possibly squeeze into 4U if space is tight. The Meridian shelf kit allows some of the rear panel connections to be duplicated at the front of the unit. This may or may not be of use to you. Normally it's the RS232 connection that's useful on the front but you could always use a flying lead. There's also some additional cooling available in the Meridian shelf. The one thing that can cause a problem is that the 861 sits forward of the front rack uprights ...so it 'sticks out' quite a bit. Not a problem if you don't have a door on your rack but if you DO.......check first. Might be worth just using a standard 4U shelf if you're short on space.

Thanks for the responses. It would be a non-rack mount version going into a Slim5 Mid Atlantic rack, so hopefully I can squeeze it into 4U.

Be careful, an 861 won't fit between the front uprights on a 19" rack! I generally put them on the top of the rack, or 'modify' the rack uprights. I guess they would fit between if the outer case is removed, but this generally doesn't conform to my customers requirements. Rick

Rick Yes, I had to physically remove part of the side rail in order to get the non-rack mount chassis into the rack. also, You need to use the kind of shelf that connects to the side of the side rails rather than the front. By doing it this way, the 861 only eats up 4 rack heights.
