Hi,

I want to trigger my 558 (to bring the multi channel
power amplifier out of standby) with the 568.2MM.
The 558 has a trigger input (AC or DC signal of between 5 and
30V), but as you might know the 568 has no trigger output.

I know there is a 110V solution which you connect between the power plug (which goes into the 568) of the 568 and the 568 unit, but I prefer a straight 'power path' without extra connections.

Are there any 220V based solutions which for instance use a COMMS or video output (composite, s-video) from the 568?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob

A 562v will trigger your 558, check (Duncan's Meridian Info) at the top of
the page.

Hello Mike,

Thanks for the info.

I know the 562v will do the trick, but I hope there is a more simple & compact (!) alternative available.

Regards,
Bob

I'm also looking for a neat solution to this without having to add a 562.

does the serial port output a voltage?, but I guess this would be present in standby as well.

I wonder whether Shawn could do something with his Universal Translator 2. The RS232 voltage ought to be enough for a trigger.

Where can I find info regarding Shawn's Universal Translator 2?
Is it 220V compatible?

Cheers,
Bob

From an email from Shawn:

The UT itself runs on anything from 7-12vDC (internally regulated)
So basically, you want an external 9v power supply.

RS232 is +/- 12 volt. However I don't think I could really do anything with a standard UT to help here as I don't directly assert flow control. I haven't seen any audio device that uses it. On both ends of the UT it just loops RTS/CTS/DSR back to the same device so if a device ended up looking for flow control it would get it.

So the conclusion is that the Universal Translator 2 has no use for triggering a 558 and bring it automatically out of standby?

And if so, are there any alternatives (besides getting a 562v2)?

Cheers,
Bob

Bob,

We could program you up a second hand AMX controller to plug into the RS232 port on the 568, detect when the 568 has a source selected using its RS232 output (so we know its been turned on) and then flick one of its internal relays to provide you a 12 volt trigger for the 558. Turning this relay back off when the 568 goes into standby. You have another box and PSU(The Axcent 3 and its PSU) which you have to put somewhere, but you don't need to get at it for it to work. It's a bit overkill but it's an option.. cost shipped would be about 250.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the info!

I get the feeling there are no compact & cheaper alternatives available.

Cheers,
Bob

There are sensors available which detect if a component is on/off by means of an audio of video ouput. In this case you can use the 568's composite output.

Have a look at the Xantech website. For example combine the SMVID01 with the CSM1
