Hi all,

In March there was a thread on placing 2 x 2 TB HDD's into a TwinStore. I wonder who has implemented this and would share his/her experiences. What enterprise-grade drives did you choose? Did you format them in NTFS? I am orientating on this because I consider replacing the 1 TB HDD's in one of my two TwinStores with 2 TB ones to avoid having to spend a lot of money on yet another TwinStore. Money I'd rather spend on music instead!

Thanks!

The Sooloos formats the drives itself when you put them in if it doesn't recognise them as Sooloos stored music drives. So never put a drive into a Sooloos 'just to see' if you have any data on it that you cherish!
Also I think that drives which have been used in an ensemble will not be recognised by a TwinStore, and vice-versa, so don't put the wrong drive in the wrong store or it will reformat it ready for its own use, wiping all the music in the process.

Thanks for the advice! Didn't know about the self formatting.

Does anyone have experience with a brand of HDD's? In my WHS I run 2TB Western Digital HDD's (Enterprise Quality) 24/7 and so far no problems.

As long as you go for the enterprise versions you should be able to expect the best durability and best compatibility with RAID controllers.

The Green drives can be problematic in RAIDs unless you modify their firmware settings to comply with the RAID controller time-outs etc.

I usually go with Hitachi (1TB) but for 2TB I think the WD enterprise class 2TB is very good.

If you have no data you want to transfer Id go with option 1.

Shut down TwinStore and replace both drives, then turn it on again

Hi Johannes,

I've got an Control:10 / Ensemble on loan from Meridian, and it is fitted with a Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB drive: ST32000641AS.

I ordered another drive (same model) and fitted it in to the Ensemble and powered it up; Once fitted I got a repeating short beeping sound (evey couple of seconds) whilst the Ensemble was formating it. During this time the Control:10 reported "searching for Sooloos core", then after circa 30 mins the Ensemble made a "fancy" multi-tone beep and the Control:10 reported "There are no Albums in you collection".

It was then ready to start ripping discs.

Regards,
Carl

PS I don't no if this helps as your profile location is blank, but I ordered the HDD from www.dabs.co.uk they are in stock at 199.66 each.
