Friends,

Last night I tried SACD playback for the first time through the Oppo/HD621/861v4 combination. The 861 indicated it was working with a 88.2 bit rate.

This made me wonder whether I am getting a true high-resolution output from the Oppo, or whether the Oppo was downsampling the SACD output to 44.1, and the HD621 upsampled and apodized it to 88.2 before passing it on to the 861.

Does anyone know whether the Oppo outputs SACD at 88.2 or 96?

I have the Oppo set to output HDMI as LPCM, and to convert SACD to PCM. I have the most recent Oppo firmware.

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.

AFAIK, the Oppo outputs SACD at 88.2kHz.

VirusKiller: thanks for the response.

I called Oppo and confirmed that the SACD output from the BDP-83 is 24/88.2.

In a display of ignorance from a soon to be HD621 owner, do all SACDs necessarily have high res data formats? Think someone said some Bluray's do not. In those cases, wouldn't we want no upsampling in the Oppo so the HD621 could perform it's magic? Is there any way to accomplish this with an Oppo? Thanks JimK

AFAIK DSD has always run at the same rate, it is different from PCM and doesn't exactly have the same idea as sampling rates of PCM.

The Oppo isn't upsampling, it is converting from DSD to PCM and it does so at 88.2kHz.
