I have reviewed the new Data sheets posted today on Meridian's media site. Both these processors get apodizing (Yeah!). Aside from the lack of video switching and the tuner, are there any other differences between these 2 models? I'm wondering if the processing and room correction are of the same quality. MIPs appear to be the same.

Thanks.

Wayne

The G61R does not have a second and third zone output.

Hi Wayne

I was previously told by M that the G68 and G61 are the same in all bar the features you describe, and the box size. Can't comment with certainty about the new Speakerlink versions of both, but it seems reasonable to assume that again, only the feature differentiation applies.

Cheers

George

Thanks Bill and George,

I think I'll wait for news of firmware upgrade to my G68 before making any purchasing decisions. The G61 would suit my needs just fine, but I would have to convert speakerlink to coax Digital for the DSP 33's (discussed elsewhere in the forum).Regards,

Wayne

The G68 has balanced/XLR analog outputs. The G61 has regular RCA/phono analog outputs.

I know it's against the Meridian ethos but as g68 already has video in the case...

I bet that if they put a 'HD621' card inside the g68 it would sell to a far wider (ie currently non Meridian owners) audience than the g68 + HD621 would and in much greater numbers.

I am sure you're right, but I bet they won't do that.

Meridian (Bob) has never had a problem with putting analogue video into its processors - both the G68 and 861v4 have video cards. The problem is high frequency digital video, and it is described rather well in the HD621 data sheet:
Quote
Digital video signals have traditionally been the bane of those in search of the best audio quality. They include very high frequency signals with very fast rise-times and thus tend to radiate an enormous spectrum of harmonics. Ideally, therefore, it makes sense to separate audio and video signals, in particular minimising opportunities for audio quality to be degraded by the presence of video.

I don't disagree with this.
