Hi,
Which specs/ settings in a blu-ray player do I have to look for if I want to output the Dolby Digital/ DTS signals untouched (via HD621) to the processor and let my 568.2MM do the decoding instead of the blu-ray player (thinking of buying a Pioneer BDP-LX52, Denon 4010UD or Marantz UD8004).
I read somewhere on these excellent forums that the Oppo for instance can output via one single HDMI cable the decoded hi-res signals as LPCM and the vanilla DD/DTS signals untouched.
Can I assume this works the same for the Pioneer, Denon and Marantz blu-ray players?
Regards, Bob

From the HD621 manual: "If they have not been decoded in the player or source (decoding in the source is the preferred configuration), Dolby Digital, DTS and AAC bitstreams are passed through untouched."

Can I assume this works the same for the Pioneer, Denon and Marantz blu-ray players? Unfortunatly most players do not have this level of flexibility, you would be wise to try before you buy. Regards, Carl.

Regards, Carl. I agree, it's not something that's advertised, best thing is to ask folks that actually own each pair and mostly only Meridian folks would understand what you are talking about. *I Think* folks have mentioned the Oppo BD83 can, but you should double check.

The functionality in the Oppo is new and may still only be in Beta firmware (which I am running). In my system, this works flawlessly. i.e. The Oppo passes DD/DTS bitstreams over HDMI, but decodes everything else.

VK, Do you have the Oppo HDMI setup as auto or do you need to change output manually for HD codecs or regular DTS? Dave

Oppo's on line firmware has the same audio setup. Set it to auto passes DD/DTS bitstream over HDMI decodes everything eles.

As Mike says, I have it set to auto. No manual intervention needed.

So is it possible to have the Oppo decode everything, and enjoy apodsing on plain old DD and DTS? And if so, does it sound better than feeding the bitstream to the processor?
Cheers

DD/STS bitstream to processor sounds better on my setup.
