Thanks for that Ronnie. Shame that it takes a forensic examination of several generations of the data sheet to establish what's been changed!

How has the G68 changed? Saw a post on another forum claiming the new G68 sounds noticeably better than the old.

Is the new G68 out in the wild yet? Could anyone outside Meridian have heard it as yet?

Cheers

Also, the data sheet features apodizing.... Which means that the G68 software is probably ready to roll.

Sounds like Meridian, have really pulled the stops out with the v6. However, given that they have almost changed every aspect of the 861 I wonder why they have retained the same 150 MIPS DSP chips.

I did a casual search of DSP chips suppliers and a lot of the suppliers I found have these DSP chips list as obsolete. eek

I would have thought M would have taken this opportunity to migrate to an up to date chip with a longer lifecycle and one that has more MIPS available.

May be the v7 will have new DSPs....... wink

Carl

I probably missed it, but are you certain that the 861V6 uses the DSPA56367PV150?

Hi Frank, I read it in the new data sheet.

This revised data sheet is now on Duncan's site; of course the data-sheet could be wrong (it's not unheard of crazy) esp. as the cards are listed as CD20 & EF20 which are the ones fitted in the 861v4 and M state that the old cards (V1-V4) are not compatible with the v6.

I guess we will not really know until someone has one and take the lid off it.

Carl

Youre right- its very possible that someone simply cut and pasted the specs over from the last one or were simply updating the old spec sheet and didn't update this by accident.

They probably bring out the new G68SL first and only after some time, release the firmware for the current owners.

Completely agree . There are many ' old phrases ' present in this data sheet from earlier ones . The whole ' PCM and Dolby Digital upsampling ' bit was from the V3
gumpf wink And didn't the E/F card replace the A/B card in the V4 upgrade ?

Surely , if they are jumping to an entirely new architecture they wouldn't be using the same ' old' cards ? Having said that , I love the sound of V4 . DVD-As and BDs sound excellent .

Another point: are we surprised that M would pull out all the stops for V6? I'm not at all. We have grumbled about their penchant for not giving us a lot of detail about the future, but they have also never disappointed- at least not me. This is their flagship processor and meant to be the heart of a movie and music system and they are asking a high price for it- it had better be justified and I think we will see that it is.
