This is very interesting, go from standard 8k to 8.2k.

Not a bad deal, just don't like the timeline. Even if I wanted to upgrade, I couldn't by July as we've just bought a new house and a baby on the way.

Hopefully apodising comes soon to the v4 wink

Don't think this is the case

The Sooloos Card for the 808/861 is to allow you to ACCESS your Sooloos System from a DIFFERENT Room

In your main Music Room, you can Input your Sooloos thru the standard Speakerlink Input and then control it in the "normal" way

No imagine if you have e.g. a "Family" Room where you still want to access your Sooloos (in Sonos terms, think of Zones) then you would put the Sooloos Card into your 861, which allows you to control your Sooloos system remotely from that room using your MSR+ (only for currently playing Playlists however, according to the various CES Releases)
The comment was about the price difference between tradeups on 808 and 861 not about the technical differences between how to get Sooloos into a 861.

The 808.3 contains the Sooloos card/function by default, the 861 doesn't. So the price difference can be explained by the 808 having the additional cost of the card already included, where as with 861, the cost of the card would be an additional 2k or whatever it officially costs. Thus the trade-ins for the 861 and 808 are in the same ballpark pro rata when the addition of the optional Sooloos card is added to the 861 is taken into account.

Of course there are many other ways of getting Sooloos into 861 without this card which don't cost anything.

do you have a info which cards have to be in the different old version, or this doesnt matter?
I heard from a dealer that the OA18(XLR out) is included and not optional,

I've already emailed my dealer and asked him to find out this information. I will post it as soon as I have it.

Cheers,
Joel

That information is already made available in the CES 861v6 brochure:

The 861 V6 is defined by the following core cards as standard:
• OE14 - digital output card with; x8 SpeakerLink outputs
• IE44 - digital input card with; x6 coaxial digital inputs
(configurable as x2 SmartLink), x2 Toslink optical inputs,
x1 SpeakerLink input, x1 MMHR input
• IA04 - analog input card with; x6 stereo analog inputs (phono),
96/24 DAC, configurable as x2 multi-channel analog inputs
Other processing/DSP and Comms cards are unchanged from the previous
version of 861.

Card options offering further input and output connectivity can be specified by
the system designer so that each 861 is made with a specification that matches
an individual customer`s requirement.

Card options for the 861 V6 are
• OA08 - analog output card with; x4 phono, 192/24 DAC
• OA18 - analog output card with; x4 XLR, 192/24 DAC
• ID26 - digital input card with; x4 Toslink optical inputs, x2 SpeakerLink inputs
• ID40 Sooloos Card - Sooloos endpoint card with: Ethernet port.

Thanks for the info VK.

I think it is expensive but it is not a terrible deal. Meridian has always been pricy. In my case, I am concerned about the cost of the upgrade because I will need 4x AC12 boxes. I dont know what those cost, but supposing they cost $1k each, thats $4k right there + the estimated $15-16k upgrade= $20k upgrade......

Best regards,
Jerry

Not only that, but is there a standard configuration for trade-up units with regard to the 'optional' cards. For example, can you specify AO18 or AO08?

Also, I am having a bit of trouble reconciling the UK price of 6,500 GBP versus the presumed US price of $16K. Maybe I'm just a bit math challenged, but shouldn't the US number be more like $11K? That's expensive, sure, but it is at least a bit more palatable. I'm also interested in the comment that dealers keep the old units. Certainly suggests that there may be less dealer margin built into the upgrade price as dealers will presumably be free to sell the old units (THAT will kill private resale values).

That's the MAJOR point!!! It certainly should not be a simple box

A good quality conversion from Speakerlink RJ45 to SPDIF and more importantly, a good quality (Jitter Minimizing) SPDIF interface jack is not going to be cheap

I'm very unenthusiastic about these extra SPDIF Interfaces for the DSP's. A step backwards for those with embedded cabling and non-Speakerlink DSP's, which is the vast majority of the installed base

If only they would say that the OE12 SPDIF Output Card will work in the v6...........
