I have the DSP 5500'S front with a 5500HC,a 568.2 and and a 598 CD/DVD. My room is quite small 16x11 wide. I wanted to tweak things a little have around a grand to spend. Could you help with some advice?? My seven year old who will inherit my overdraft is using the system for games and I must admitt I am getting addicted to modern warefare 2 myself (ashamed)
Also need a set of rears, would like to stay with DSP'S have another 1200 to spend on that.
Was thinking on buying the F80 for the wife (told her that anyway) what's your opinion on that-hard to hear one over here in Belfast-none around to listen to Seasons greetings
Many thanks James

You could probably find a pair of MK-I DSP5000's (upgraded to 24/96) for around that price. Also many of us run Music Servers which is something you might consider adding. http://www.meridianunplugged.com/wiki/index.php?pagename=Music%20Server%20OptionsAnother option would be a Modded Oppo BD83 (with 6 Channel digital output) they pop up on this forum now and then. Those are all in your price range.

Hi James
Given that you have 5500s across the front, I reckon the biggest sonic gain for music would be a G processor with room correction. You could find a G68 for ~2k and selling your 568.2mm would get you to an overall outlay of 1k, ie on budget.
That doesn't get you rears of course, which will add to your movie and games enjoyment. 1200 will get you a set of MkI 5000s in 96/24 trim. Certainly a pair of DSP33s with cash left over (~800)
Re the F80, I'd go ahead and just buy it. I've had hifi for decades, and the first piece of kit which has sparked my wife's interest in listening to music is the F80. Goodness, she's even bought a few new CDs of her own! She'd happily dump the rest of my system and just live with the F80. Ex dem ones come up for 1000-1200. And just as an interesting aside, not only has it variously proved itself as a superb one piece system for music and DVDs (with an older 42" SD plasma), it amply filled a sizeable church hall two nights ago with backing tracks whilst my son sang a few songs!
Cheers
George

I just noticed you said 568.2 and not 568.2mm. Without MM a Modded Oppo wouldn't do much for you.

But he has a 598, so probably has an MM.

There were a number of dealers selling exdem F80s (Sevenoaks etc I think). A simple web search should reveal savings of up to 500 off MRP. Having paid full whack myself I was rather surprised at the discounts (is a major change on the way or are some dealers bailing out of Meridian?).
As advised by Mr Meridian, just go ahead and get one. And no-one needs to be possessive as they are so wonderfully portable.
