There's a 568.2 on eBay at the moment and I'm wondering what it's worth. My 568.1 sold for 550 which is almost what I paid for it not long ago.

What is the .2 worth in general and what is the main difference between .1 and .2 but not mm.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know about prices but the .2 adds another processor board giving more horsepower - this allows it to upsample all channels and better processing. Most importantly though, is it allows the v2.5 firmware to be loaded which brings further performance improvements and fundamentally changes the architecture of decode and process - as per >861v3.5 and G series processors. Decode is effectively transparent and you simply need to specify the output DSP mode, not worrying if it was pcm,dd, dts etc.

Will

I have had in this order 568.2MM (had to sell as got short of ), 568.1 and now 568.2. The SQ on the 568.2 (and MM) with 2.5 software is definitely a step up from a 568.1

I sold my 568.1 about a year ago for 550 as well!

Personally I would estimate a 568.1 to be worth 500-550, a 568.2 to be worth 800-900 and an MM to be worth around 1000. All of these prices could be +/- 100.

At present the European market is very strong for UK sellers so the seller may achieve his asking price, whereas the internal UK market is a little depressed.

Gentlemen thank you.

Out of curiousity, what difference does the mm model bring. The MHR interconnect I am unfamiliar with, but I'm assuming it's for connection to DSP speakers and brings some benefit? Is there a sound quality difference between .2 and mm to speak of? Is the .2 basically the same processor minus this piece of connectivity and can you achieve the same with it?

Mr Perceptive

Whatever price is achieved I believe the mm has to be worth more than 100-200 over the 568.2

It gives a user potential access to HD Audio formats, whereas the 568.2 has no means of this.

Sadly there are many fantastic processors out there (Meridian included) that without "multichannel" analog in, have seen prices fall sharply.

So I would put the the 100 to 200 price differance between the .1, .2 and see the 300 to 400 differance between the the .2 and .2mm

I have sold two .2mm's in the last few months.

eBay, being eBay, anything is possible shocked

The MHR allows you to connect a HD621, with all that implies (multichannel hi-res audio from Bluray, or from DVD-A/SACD via Oppo - integrated HDMI video switching - dejittering - Apodizing upsampling filters for CD or AppleTV input via HDMI).

I wouldn't have touched an 568.2 without MM because I want all of the above out of the HD621.

It also allows you to connect a Meridian DVD-A player and get the MLP decoded in the Meridian processor, but that is now a relatively weak application of the input, so to speak.

N

PS I paid 1200 for my MM. As I am in Euroland the weakness of the pound doesn't apply.

Chaps thanks. VirusKiller, it's not that one. Have been following that thread. Personally, and this is just me, I tend to shy away from the very low serial numbers in any product if I can. I'd rather the manufacturing team got a bit of practise, learn from any mistakes and implement any tweeks before they make the one I'll buy wink Naturally, they should do this before production begins, but hey ho, you just never know.

This is the one on sale.

I take it that the mm can take the HD621's output direct and the 568.2 would need to be fed from an Oppo with the 4xcoax mod? Is this correct? Though the inputs are sufficient in number, can the .2 be configured to run this way? Or is the modded Oppo designed to be connected directly to DSP speakers in twos? If so, then naturally, the mm is far more versatile allowing many devices to be connected via HD621.

I saw that one Will. I reckon 800 is more on the mark for a straight .2.

No. You need the MM for a multi-channel PCM input.

That's exactly what I was thinking. But I'd rather buy one in a normal auction and see how much it can bought for with a ceiling of 800 rather than going straight in with an offer at the limit of what I'd pay. Maybe better for the vendor this way, but it's not much fun from this side of the fence. Always enjoy watching the price creep up in auctions, never knowing where it might stop. Sometimes you get lucky as a buyer, and sometimes I'm staggered by how much something goes for, like a 551 that sold for nearly 500 a couple of weeks ago on eBay. Worth about 250-300. Unbelievable. Someone, or seemingly, two people, must have really really wanted one.

No. You need the MM for a multi-channel PCM input.

I see. I can see that the mm would command an obvious premium then. I'm less clear as to why you'd want the .2 over the .1 for it's improvements, unless you listen to a lot of SACDs or DVD-As and need the upsampling of a full track signal across the rear channels. If the .2 won't do HD audio, then it's barely more useful in today's Bluray and HD streaming world, than the brilliant 568.1

Perhaps with the advent of HD audio, the pricing differential should shift?

100-200 increase from .1 to .2 and 200-400 again for mm.

This would suggest (and this is purely through my eyes as a consumer):

550 for 568.1
700 for 568.2
1000 for 568.2mm

Or something like that. As time goes by, I'd expect the mm to hold it's position and the .1 and .2 to decrease by just a little bit. Naturally, they're still great processors, but their relevance in an HD world must naturally be considered. Having said that, that's my paradigm. Those with 3000+ cds, will probably want the elements of a .2 and won't be so interested in an mm. So value, as ever, is dependant on the needs of the buying.

The .2 with v2.5 firmware shares, for upsampling and the main DSP modes, the same algorithms as the G and 861 processors. The regular v1 and v2 firmware does not. The .2 horsepower is required for this. That's why some would still want the 568.2 (sans MM) over the 568.1.

I don't see the point of running a 568.2 without the v2.5 firmware though.
