Compare the following two images. The first is for the *568* review sample and the item on eBay. The VGA connector goes into a slot in the backplate whereas the RS232 is part of the backplate... Also, the stencilling of Meridian COMMS and DIGITAL INPUT is different. The fact that we have two pictures of 568s with an RS232 male connector in the expansion slot (and one from a genuine review) suggests to me that this is a legit configuration. I think the eBay item is a *very* early 568 which always had the second RS232, which has been upgraded to 568.2, and which *may* be MM capable with the right cable from Meridian. Only Meridian will know, if the seller doesn't.

I bet it was an M prototype/staff unit judging by the serial number.

Hmmm, well I've also got a 568 with a male DB9 marked 'EXPANSION' in the same position, exactly the same as for the first picture in VK's post above. Mine is a low serial number as well: 10033.
I've always wondered what that expansion connection really is...

I just looked at the back of my 568.2mm and the MHR connection is a 15 pin female VGA socket and not the 9 pin RS232 male plug as shown in his photo. I very much doubt that this unit is capable of MHR.

I very much doubt that this unit is capable of MHR. That is what I said in post ONE. This is one of the very first 568#s made. The serial connector, whatever it's intended use will have nothing to do with MHR. Indeed it would be potentially very dangerous if it was! An end user could connect their PC to this socket piping the mconfig program into the "MHR" instead of the intended RS232. With the above in mind, I would not believe that Meridian would have let these items out (which they obviously did) unless it was either not connected, or a repeat RS232 connector for whatever reason.

I don't think anyone is suggesting otherewise, certainly not me, the take care in the beginning was mentioned so an HH member did not buy without looking closely at the connector and think they had bagged an "MM" Martin
