Hi,
simple question can the G68ADV switch RGB input on the component video connections?

I have two sources, one RGB (sky box) and one YUV (Wii). The Wii works through the G68 and sky doesnt. I do not need the G68 to do any video conversion as the display takes either RGB or YUV on its RCA inputs.

Thanks

IIRC, the video switching in the G68 is just passthrough so I imagine that this would work. You can try it without worrying as I don't think anything will be damaged if the formats are incompatible.

What breakout cable or converter do you have? Assuming you are getting RGB from the Sky box via scart, then you can't switch it in the G68ADV, because you need *four* signals: R, G, B, and composite (for video sync).

You might consider getting an RGB scart -> component converter as sold by the likes of Lektropacks and Keene.

Edit: To clarify, the RGB signal from scart is RGBcvs (composite video sync), not RGsB (sync on green)

VK,

Yes you are correct. I was thinking of the output from my old video processor which was just 3 wire (synch on green).

If the display inputs are composite or RGB (sounds like my old Barco), presumably it is expecting to see RGsB.

I asked this once and had an email from M about it. I can't find it to give the official response but it would appear to be dependant on whether the synch is part of the signal (normally on green) or not. However, the bit I can't remember is the bit about what happens if synch is not on green and is a separate signal (as per SCART). Whether or not this can be satisfactorily switched using the composite inputs I can't remember - its going to be dependant on if there is any skew in the switching of different types of inputs.

I never bothered in the end so didn't get a chance to experiment. I also looked at a RGB to YUV converter as VK mentions - they are of variable quality and the most highly rated one was from js-technology. I was offered one once at a discount and regret not buying it as its quality was very very good.

I forgot that you could switch composite as well. I suppose it *might* work if you hooked the RGBS up to both component and composite inputs on the G68, but it might get a bit ugly on the display end.

Do you not have 3xcomponent output on your skybox ? Am sure I have on mine.

Hi,
yes I was assuming the signal was RGsB but when connecting directly to the display its a Scart plug to 4 RCA so can pick up the sync from composite, as you say.

I see you can have composite and component enabled in Mconfig, if these are switched completely seperately then I will try enabling the composite signal on Sky input but not for Wii. If it works then I will save 70+ on a RGB to YUV converter - thanks.

Thanks

ncpl - no RCAs for video only scart on Sky and sky+ boxes.

Probably best to set the composite input on the G68 to an unconnected RCA for the Wii. You don't want it set to "last valid" as this could confuse your display if it's picking up the composite sync from the Sky box with the component input from the Wii!

I believe only the first wave of Sky+HD boxes had component output options. Later HD's and all the non HD's don't as far as I know.

I have SkyHD so must be a version with components and HDMI.

I convert from another Sky+ box using a Scart/RGB converter and that had no issues going through my G68 with 3 RCA plugs.
