What do you think will be the preferred, and options for, connections between M's newest components with Speakerlink and MMHR(808.2, DSP7200, DSP8000.2, Sooloos, AC11, HD61),their older components (eg, G and 800 series), and their next release components (player, surround processor)?

I start my thinking/wondering from the inputs to my 7200 - x1 RJ45/Speakerlink and x1 digital audio SPDIF. I prefer Speakerlink as the quality is there and the cost of cabling is less.

Currently the 808.2 goes direct to the RJ45 and G processor to the SPDIF. In the future with all Speakerlink components if only the Speakerlink/RF45 to the 7200s is used then there will be a need for a hub such as the HD61 and/or a new processor. Then there is Sooloos to complicate or assist.

How much is the HD61 a component for mainly backward compatibility instead of for the future?

So it's not just what M will release next but what we can do with the connections supplied. From the start I got caught waiting for the AC11 to be released to make the old Comms (eg in G series) work with the new Comms (Speakerlink). When the AC11 was released I found out I could not connect the way I wanted (Speakerlink). Fortunately there was a software adjustment to correct the Comms.

The question asked here is a different focus to just what components will M release next.

The joy of uncertainty.

Well; Meridian will have to be compatible with Industry Standards, so the HD621 is to allow HDMI to connect properly to Meridian Processors.
I cant see HDMI going away anytime at all so this seems like an ideal solution to future proof old product and complement new Product. It Keeps Video out of the Procesors.
I would also think Speakerlink will become the norm in an all Meridian digital system for the forseeable future. I am told it sounds better and it is cheaper to install.

Meridian Have to comply with Copy Protecion legislation so this requirment will inform everything they do now and in the future.
As we all know, Meridian will not comment on future products so your guess is as good as mine.

Just my thoughts, Chris smile

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
