I'm looking for a 568.

My set-up is DSP 5k and 5kc front with no rears with a 596 and currently a 561M inbetween. I'm interested to see what difference the 568 can make feeding high sample rates to my 24/96 speakers.

Without rears a 568.1 is probably all I need but...... if there's a 568.2 out there it might just save me another wallet defying step on the Meridian ladder. I'm not looking to move to a HD source for a while so a 568.2mm is probably overkill for me.

Oh and I already have a 562v.2 to take over my video switching duties!

Anybody have one or spotted one out there?

Many thanks

Richard

MD600 tucked away in study. Lots of other Meridian!

Hardware wise, the only difference as far as I am aware between the 568 and .2 was the extra DSP which allowed rear channel upsampling. As you say, this is of no benefit to you.

However, the 'beta' software available for the .2 (and .2mm) does (for most people) raise the quality game to G series levels. It may be worth considering a .2 for this alone if price differentials are not too great.

i've got a 568.1 and would like to upgrade to a 568.2mm or possibly 569.2
I don't want to spend a fortune upgrading so if anyones got a 568.2(mm) then we may be able to strike a 3 way deal, i'll upgrade to the .2 or .2mm and pass on my .1 to Richard.

Ian, thanks for the advice. wasn't sure if the beta software applied to the 568.2 as well as the .2mm. I had also read that the .2 was "better" musically but IIRC this was in the context of using it in a 2ch system as a balanced pre-amp. I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at a 568.2 if there was a relatively small price differential. Didn't M's trade in deal off the same rebate for all versions of the 568? This might have firmed up 568.1 secondhand values?

Grog, notwithstanding my comments above. I might well be interested if the price was right. Where are you based, UK?

Richard

PS (tongue in cheek) I'm not interested in a 502!

I'm in south wales, which is probably as far from you as it's possible to get!

i've not been actively looking recently for a 568.2/.2mm but i'll have a quick look.
if anyone knows of one for sale, please let me know.

Richard,

I have a vanilla (not mm) but original 568.2. I have the original box, packaging with serial numbers and the remote. However, I do not have the manual or the serial cable. I have not used it for over a year but it was functioning perfectly then and has been in its box since. It was upgraded to the latest (last?) firmware version. I bought it off a fellow hitchhiker about 3 years ago.

I am based in London.

Let me know if you are interested.

John

John

PM sent, thanks.

Grog

My DSPs came from North Wales so not so far as it sounds really, especially as a well packed processor is probably safe in the post/courier, rather than the 1000 round trip I had to collect my speakers.
