I'm not sure that a What Hifi review would be a lot of use to you (or anyone?) Meridian are not reviewed very frequently these days in mags. You know that I'm going to say that you need to make a special effort to visit a dealer and listen. A lot of good dealers will loan you demo gear to listen at home - with a bit of security. It's the only way.

Hi Conan,
According to Meridian, the G61R has the identical DSP engine to the G68 excluding Zones etc. Probably the best and most detailed review of the G68 is provided in Widescreen Review by John Kotches. The title says it all really,
'Meridian G68 Preamplifier & Processor, Gorgeous, Engaging, Groundbreaking, Great Sounding'.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Paul

Ok thank you all for all of your advice and help. This upgrade is a pretty bit step up for me (having had the 565 since before even Dolby Digital and DTS) and I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing - especially as the 861 is really a bit too much money for me to justify.
And the 565 still outperforms anything that I have ever heard in someones actual home or personal cinema set-up.
I have ordered a G61R, HD621 and 24/96 upgrades for my 2 DSP5000's and DSP5000C - taking advantage of the Meridian upgrade program before it ends!
I want to thank everyone who chipped in with advice and suggestions (some of which I had not considered) and I can't wait to get the new kit installed and start running it in :-)
Here's hoping that Meridian don't announce a G61r replacement before the year is over!!! <fingers crossed>.

Please report back once you have listened to it all!
I am trying to decide whether to go for a 568.2MM (the realistic choice) or save up for a G61R (probably too much of a stretch) - so I am very interested!...
