The main scenario I was trying to cover was tv/cable. For me this is my primary usage. Unfortunately the verizon motorola box only outputs 2ch pcm over HDMI. I don't really expect motorola to ever decode dd as they work to make the boxes cheaper and cheaper. Does the tivo output multichannel pcm over HDMI ?

Thanks for spotting the site. I connected one up to my Sky HD box and it worked perfectly. I have two Sky HD boxes so I can compare the picture quality and on a 46 inch display I couldn't fault it. I am using Wireworld HDMI cables. PCM 2-channel is upscaled to 96K and bitstream AC3. 3/2.1 and AC3. 2/0.0 is passed through 48k.

In dolby it does 5.1. In PCM it only does 2 channels. I have my TIVO connected to a Radiance via HDMI which is connected to a HD621 and then a G68. No problems with 5.1. Previously I had the TIVO connected directly to the HD621 and also no problems with 5.1.

I guess what I'm asking is does the tivo decode DD and output multichannel pcm over HDMI or does it bitstream ? The first case allows the HD621 to upsample whereas in the second case it's a passthrough. On the processor it'll show something like MHR Movie6 96K in the first case and AC3 3/2.1 48k in the latter.
