I am pretty sure that the 3100s will get the upsampling updates, as will the G6x processors and the 861v4. And, probably, the 800, the original G08, the original 808 and the G91 and G92. Meridian is very busy and all of the development and listening tests simply take time.

The firmware upgrade can easily be done by yourself at home as long as you have 'Windows PC' availabilty. I found the biggest problem to be acquiring a USB/serial port connector that worked but once that I had obtained a suitable unit the rest was quite simple and was very much a case of following the instructions in the update file

Thanks, Rodders.

Straying a bit off topic, if I were to pair the DSP 5200s with a G91 or G92, a few questions arise. Is Trifield possible if I add a third DSP 5200? And is the HD621 compatible with the G91 or G92?

The G91/92 does not have (discreet) multi channel digital input so you could not use the HD621 except in 2 channel mode.

I initially intended to get a G91 to replace my G68/G98 combo, but lack of multi channel digital input stopped me.

I'll write you a quick review.

The 5200s are amazing, which is why I sold all my Linn stuff and bought them! And I haven't upgraded them with the Apodizing filters yet - not sure if I have to as I use a G08 with them.

They do everything the Linn active system did, then a lot more. I cannot imagine a better system, but I haven't heard Meridian's top system.

Last year I went to the Hi Fi Wigwam show where members of that forum showed off their systems, and I can honestly say that I never once felt that I needed to change my system, and there was some pretty esoteric stuff there.

and MHR does not work. So the HD621 will feed the G91 only with low res 2-channel...

tkimages, you really owe it to yourself to upgrade your DSP5200's to the new apodizing version. The presentation is a bit more refined and smoother. And it's free! laugh

Going away tomorrow for a well earned rest, I'll have a go at upgrading them when we come back. I'm always nervous about software upgrades when I've never done one before.

Hi TKimages,

Flashing the 5200s is realy easy, the only trick is when prompted to switch off and then back on the 5200 with the mains switch make sure that flashloader is still running as it detects the speaker powering up and then starts the transfering the software update. Once finished all was well with mine and this firmware revision but sometimes a re-type is also required.

I recall a HH member having problems becouse he kept stopping the flashload whilst power cycling the 5200 as he incorrectly thought he had to.

I can't believe Meridian didn't send a notice that I could update my DSP5200s.

With that said, would it make any difference with the 808.2, which has the new filter in it?

Meridian also changed the "EQ", whatever that means. It could have something to do with the crossover and/or time alignment of the drivers. In other words, you should still do the update if you have an 808.2.
