Morning all,
I'm looking to get a new amp and speakers, and one option I could consider is a G01/2 along with DSP5200MKIIs.
However, I am wondering if my small-ish living room can accommodate them (they look big)? Would anyone suggest you need a certain size of room? What sort of placement do they need to work best?
Many thanks!

Hi Sony,
And welcome to this forum!
A couple of things, the G01 and G02 are analogue preamps, so no use with the 5200s unless you feed them through an A>D converter (although the MP Max 221 will do this if most of your system is analogue and you still require a conventional preamp for switching).
What size is your room? The 5200s, like the 5000s before them, can work well in modest rooms. Like any speakers, they will work best with more space around them, but you also have a degree of adjustment within the DSPs for corner or boundary placement.
Let us know more about the rest of your system and room.
Cheers
George

A couple of things, the G01 and G02 are analogue preamps Meridian DSP speakers do not require a preamp if you have only two sources (or use the MPMax221 to convert analogue source). For more than two sources, you need digital and/or analogue switching (plus A2D conversion). A G-series version of the 562 preamp would be ideal if you have a mixed sources, but sadly, there is no G62 (in-joke). Let us know what your sources are and we can advise.

The DSP5200MKII have a very slender look, so I doubt they would be too overbearing for even the smallest rooms. The DSP5200MKII are active digital speakers so they do not need an amp. If you have many sources or more sources than 2 digital then a G61R preamp is all you really need. It's really neat and have room correction if you would like to use it to tail it to your room acoustics better. What sort of sources do you use and plan to use? And what size of room are you planning to use? A nice starting setup would be: G61R (Preamp) DSP5200MKII (Active Speakers) Placement is probably this setups forte as the speakers themselves can be set to Free-standing, Near Wall or Corner placement. It will alter it's bass output accordingly. Apart from that the G61R preamp is able to tailor the bass response even further to match what you need in the listening position. This is called Meridian Room Correction and can be bypassed if preferred.. Feel free to post your expectations and what you would like to accomplish

It's odd Meridian doesn't have a G series 2 Channel Preamp for DSP speakers to allow more sources, do they? Seems like they need a G62.

A HD621 for all HDMI inputs or a second hand 562 or (more likely to find) 562v/2/3 for analogue and digital sources.
There are many solutions, its all dependent on what your sources are.
If its just CD, then all you need is a CD player with coax digital out and the 5200's.

The room size is, errr, maybe 12' x 12'. However the speakers would only be around 6' apart, with me sitting at the apex of about 8' away - roughly.
My CD player is a Bow Technologies ZZ-Eight and the DVD player is a Denon DVD 2800 MKII. It is good to have the odd movie playing via the hifi but music would be the main source.
So what would I need with the 5200s? Anything?

If both sources have SPDIF RCA output then you need nothing but the 5200's.

That's the elegance of a two channel / two source (digital) M system... no other boxes needed.

That room size would be fine - mine is 4metre by 5 and my dsp5500 have no caused me a problem, i have them set on boundary as they are in corners. Long sentence lol.

Nice clean system, two sources with two speakers Room will be no issue with your described seating distance.
