Hi,

You don't want to use the .2 tweeters, they won't match the DSP6000.
You need to use DSP7000 (mark 1) tweeters.

Cheers,

Rick

Rick-Do you mean won’t exactly match the other tweeters in his system?

I thought Seas discontinued the original tweeters some time back (6-8 years ago), replacing it with a new model of the same spec. I had used DSP6000s (early 2000s pair) 5500s (upgraded to 96K) a Smiley 5500 for a center, each model at least 5+ years apart. I replaced all the tweeters, a number of years back, when one 6000 tweeter began acting up periodically. I believed that the speaker software could compensate for any difference in loudness levels.

My dealer at the time let me have the new ones at cost in return for a favor on another matter. I wanted to have exactly matching tweeters across the front for Trifield, and wanted the 5500s to be able to front a system down the road.

Hi James,

Sounds like your system will be fine, Meridian did 'upgrade' the original silver dome tweeters with some black dome ones of similar sensitivity.
These could be installed in DSP5000, 6000, 7000, 5500 all fine and actually did sound better than the originals.

However the DSP7200.2 had a tweeter which was more efficient, outputting twice the volume for the same voltage input.
If you use these in 'non .2' speaker then you will have double the volume from the tweeter making it too bright.

Actually it's more complicated than this, and we needed to change the 'Comms' board in the DSP7200 to match the tweeter when upgrading from DSP7200 to DSP7200.2.
This was so there was a perfect match between tweeter and electronics.

The speakers don't have electronics which analyse the tweeter and correct for it, not sure where you got that from?
They do adjust the bass level to boost it at lower levels, but that's to do with our perception of bass at lower levels.

Cheers,
Rick

Thanks Rick. I got the new black ones as you describe and did not realize that these were not the.2 tweeter. Regarding tweeter levels, in making my decision I made an assumption that older tweeters might become more inefficient with age, and the age of mine was all over the Map. Marc Koval explained, as he was installing on behalf of my dealer that output levels would be balanced in setup.

Hi James,

Yes that's correct, tweeters can degarde over time and use, so replacing them all with new at the same time was a great idea to match them all up again.
