I've recently had a problem with my 800/861. When I put a new CD or DVD into the 800, it loads properly, I press play and it begins to play but without sound. The 861 reads Trifield for CD's and apparently is taking the sinal but I can only get sound if I press mute 2X. Sometimes this doesn't work and I have to press CD on the remote to reset the DSP.
I have tried to reset "controller" as the 861 but this has not helped.

My 800 is the older pre-DTS version and I'm using the up to date software for the 861.

Has anyone in the forum had a similar issue?

Thanks
Alan

What version software is on your 800?

You did not try to install new 800 software on your 800 did you? (That would be a bad thing.)

No, I only updated the 861 and still have the original 800 software.

I don't have any experience with the 1st Gen 800, but here are a few things to try.

1. Turn MHR off if it offers that.
2. Try the other digital output
3. Try a different digital input on the 861

Does this happen with other DSP modes?

Turn on the diagnostics display in the 861 via the software. Next time you get it to repro, press the display button on the 861 and write down what is on each screen. Someting in there might be able to help track down the issue.

I reloaded the 861 software, with diagnostics on, and the problem seems to be fixed. How is the software stored? Is it possible for the information in the 861 to get corrupted, as in a PC program?

I have alike problems with my 861.
Especially with my HT PC. The 861 does understand what is input: DTS, DD, PCM, but no sound. i sometimes helps to press mute, sometimes to fast foreward, or fast rewind on the powerdvd or windvd.
Last week i bought a 500 CD drive from Meridian, and also problems. The 861 knows that there is input, but o sound. With the 500 mute does help every time.
First i thought there was something worng with my HTPC, but if the 500 drive also gives problems, it is more likely the 861 itself.

i will mail Meridian tech support on this, i do not like it at all. Perhaps i try to go back to the old software, i never had this with the old software.

Yes I get this with my 861 as well. I believe this is still a SW glitch from the latest download. Pressing mute then un-mute always solves the issue for me.

I thought Meridian was going to release an update to this current SW to iron out a few bugs?

I don't have this issue at all.

Are you using the frame delay feature? I think this came up before. Turn it off and see if the problem clears.

Same as Jaco, "0" for frame delay option.

Guess that was a different issue.

Deniz, I know you have older input and output cards, Jaco which input and output cards are you using?

Just trying to eliminate variables.

Stacey,
I have an IE16 input card, and OA02 (24/96) analogue outputs.
Last night i tried a bit more expansive optical cable, and than the first DVD pleyed fine. I cannot make conclusions on that yet, since it was only one disc. I will have time next week to run more tests.
I do get it working, but it is somewhat annoying this way.
