After two or three years of indecision, waiting for new models, finding time to re-arrange the living room and the other ills which Hi-Fi flesh is heir to ...

Finally about to get new TV, probably Samsung QLED. Will probably keep Sky HD until HDR is in place (Sky have delayed again) and give me a chance to catch up on a load of Proms recordings (why Sky can't grasp that losing recordings is a big barrier to selling upgrades is beyond me). Apple 4K does handle HDR/Dolby for Netflix/Prime.

According to what I've read static HDR (HDR10) needs HDMI 2.0a and HLG needs 2.0b. Dynamic HDR (HDR 10+/Techniclolour and Dolby Vision) needs 2.1, which would have to be new boxes all round, even if 2020 TVs will have it.

I can't find anywhere if the UHD722 is 2.0 or 2.0a/b. Anyone know?

Am I going to be better off duplicating HDMI inputs to a switcher (hopefully one that auto-senses inputs) or direct to the TV and to the UHD722 just for audio?

Any other observations welcome, thanks for looking.

Dolby vision doesn’t require HDMI 2.1 as my LG C8 has it and it’s not 2.1.

My panasonic OLED TV only supports HDR10+ so that's the only format I can test.
My UHD722 is running 1.0.9 and it does not pass through HDR10+ metadata, it only works if I bypass it and run my Bluray player directly to my TV and use the audio only output to the UHD722.
I presume it's the same situation for Dolby Vision but I can not verify that with my setup.

Thanks for the posts so far, it's beginning to look as I half expected.
Except for the audio and MMHR-link the UHD722 is pretty much obsolete already.

I'm using a Blustream HDMI box at the moment to duplicate the Apple TV, but I'll have a look at the HD Fury v2, suggested on a similar thread about the UHD722.

I'll also see if I can get some definitive answers from my Meridian dealer - their rep seems pretty good.
I'll post back if there's anything to say.

As per Meridian's own FAQ on the UHD722s support page:
Quote:
All seven inputs support HDMI 2.0b.
This should be enough for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, but does not seem to be working at the moment. Meridian might be releasing a firmware release to fix it, you never know.

Perhaps more Hitchhikers could pitch in with their experiences with the UHD722?

I’m pretty sure that all HDMI 2:1 brings to the table above 2:0a & 2:0b is eARC

Most 4k players that can output HDR10+ and Dolby Vision have two HDMI outputs, one for TV, and one for Audio. Apple TV 4k can't do HDR10+, so HDR10 and the 722 can do that for sure. Bigger problem is audio, anyway. My roku does 4K HDR, but it won't do 7.1 LPCM.

I don't have a Dolby Vision source so I can't check that.
