Hi Regeli,

Thanks for replying back!
I think I will also buy the Vertex2 soon, after upgrading to the LG CX oled.
Could you share the parameter settings for Dolby Vision?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Bob

Sure, no problem. That's why we have this community online grin

I could not use custom EDID parameters settings at my friendthe AF9, the custom EDID nr. 11 did work properly and could see my TV model fully on the OSD.
Guess this setting is pending on what TV you have and what EDID parameters is stored in the Vertex2.
What I really like about the Vertex2 is the OSD (blue text showing below on the TV screen) where you can see what video/audio input is passing the switch.

See below for the parameters, Apple TV 4k as active input (in system menu) when exporting the parameters.
I also took some screenshots of the settings, can be found here: Link
Guess I could played more with the settings, but as long it's working, I don't touch wink

If you wonder what happen with the HD621/861 when Dolby Atmos audio track is presented in to it, the HD621/861 does not understand anything and offcourse no sound.
Lucky for the 7.1/5.1 speaker system owners, there is a 7.1 or 5.1 soundtrack in additional to the Dolby Atmos track on the Bluray discs.
On Apple TV, you can turn off Dolby Atmos in the menu and 7.1 surround is presented instead.

Hi regelli

I was looking onto this vertex2 solution for use with my zappiti media player & would like to understand how the vertex2 works.

Does the vertex transfer dolby Atmos / dtx/dts HD /... into lpcm formatt which be used into HD621 towards my 861v4

Thank you

Coeno

The Vertex2 can’t do any re-encoding for the audio part, only send some custom EDID table if required.
What comes in, goes out un-touched...

When the Apple TV 4k was set to output Dolby Atmos, the HD621/861 did not switch to Cinema mode or anything. When Dolby Atmos was disabled, one of the movies I tested with Dolby Atmos gave me 7.1 surround and was ok for me wink

I’ve watched lot’s of movies with Atmos sound on my LG SL10YG soundbar with the optional rear speakers. Really impressive audio mixing and how this soundbar performs. But, of course at my friend place with full 7.1 Meridian system, I really enjoy 7.1/5.1 surround.

Hopefully for the 7.1/5.1 surround owners, they still will make a 7.1/5.1 soundtrack on movies in additional to the Atmos soundtrack in the future grin

Hi Regeli,

Thanks for the info!
I thought that the Apple TV 4K always outputs LPCM if you set audio structure to automatic?
So it decodes for instanance Atmos soundtracks from iTunes to LPCM which your HD621 can process.
But iTunes or Netflix Atmos of course is DD+ Atmos, unlike UHD blu-ray’s ‘real’ high-res Atmos.

Regards,
Bob

You'r right, movies/streaming services on the Apple TV does not transport un-compressed video or audio and I understand why when it comes to bitrate wink
Anyway, some 4k movies from Apple Movies are really good when it comes to video and audio quality, but not all of them is my experience from the last year.

A Bluray disc movie with un-compressed video and audio is still the best I would say if you really like watching movies like me.
Using Pioneer UDP-LX500 as transport for movies at the moment to my Sony AF9 OLED TV, stunning picture quality and can't compare it with Apple TV 4k grin

Edit: SACD playback (LPCM conversion) to the HD621 on this Pioneer player is working flawlessy and so the audio quality cool

Ive bought a Marmitek - Connect AE24 UHD 2.0 as a HDMI audio extractor to feed my HD621.

The HD621 was an eBay purchase and it seems to have a faulty HDMI out port and cannot get any video out from it.

Im using the Connect AE24 to feed 5.1 LPCM from my Xbox one to the HD621 and then send the video to my GT50 Tv. (the AE25 manual mentions only 2 ch PCM, but it seems to work with multi channel LPCM)

I just plugged all the HDMI cables in and turned it on and it all worked cool

Im hoping to get an OLED this year, so Im expecting the AE24 will play nicely with it.

Ive only had the AE24 a day, but Im very happy with it and at around £85 it seems to be a bargain way to keep a HD621 compatible with UHD 4k / HDR HDMI.

Sayeth wikipedia: "Because of limited bandwidth and lack of processing power, Atmos in home theaters is not rendered the same way as in cinemas. A spatially-coded substream is added to Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital Plus."

For home theater, Atmos is a backwards compatible extension to TrueHD or DD+, says Dolby Labs. The Atmos soundtrack is the 7.1 soundtrack. So if your system can turn TrueHD into 7.1 LPCM then you're good.

Hi Frank,

That sounds great, just to make sure I understand you, can you confirm that the Marmitek is receiving a bitstream (DD/DTS/DD-HD/DTS-HD/..) from the HDMI from the Xbox and transfers this towards 5.1 LPCM towards your HD621?

Hi there,

No the Marmitek does not do any decoding of the audio stream. My Xbox One outputs LPCM.
